Hi Deborah,

Thank you for getting in touch.

You will be able to search and then have the ability to view the transcript and/or image at a cost and view what you have purchased online via Findmypast.

On the search you will have access to both simple and more advanced search fields for 1921 records - meaning you can search not only on names & locations but also on other household members, occupations and other biographical details captured in the census forms.

Results pages will show (with no charge) names, birth year & birthplace and parish & registration district in the census records. And a preview hover-over will also indicate the names of a couple of other members of the same household.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Vicky

You will be able to search on the 1921 census in the same way as you can on the 1911 census. My great-grandmother was Sarah Kill. A search of the 1911 census brings up these results:-

I happen to know that the first result is my great grandmother. You will be able to see the same sort of results for free on the 1921 census but if you click on either the transcript or the image of any of the results you will have to pay.

Cant remember!! or the 1939, may have been a year.

greyghost Report 27 Oct 2021 12:31

Trying to remember, how long it was before FMP members got the 1911 records"free" ie as part of our subscription - was it a year?

Deborah

Deborah Report 27 Oct 2021 11:37

Yes. I expect he meant for those who do not have FMP. I didn't query it, because he gave me the answer I was after.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 27 Oct 2021 11:34

One can search by address on FMP now.

Deborah

Deborah Report 27 Oct 2021 11:32

I have just phoned FMP and they told me the initial search will have the name, address and DOB. or year of birth.

There is also a facility to search for an address.

IE; 2 types of free search, one on the name and one on the address.

The transcript will have a lot more information, IE other household members, occupation etc. and all the other information they have advertised.

Deborah

Deborah Report 27 Oct 2021 11:14

What I would like to know is when it says we can view the record how much information will be on the record, I cant find that out.

Deborah

Deborah Report 27 Oct 2021 11:12

Thank you ErikaH, that will help those who do not subscribe.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 27 Oct 2021 11:02

One does not have to subscribe to FMP to access 1921. Therefore, anyone can view records without having to fork out over £100.00

Deborah

Deborah Report 27 Oct 2021 10:53

I agree with you Andrew, if that's what it is going to cost I cant see many people using it, and thank you also ErikaH

Copied from FMP

How much will the census cost?
£2.50 for every record transcript and £3.50 for every original record image.

This will cover the cost of digitising and transcribing the 18,235,242 images created from the records supplied exclusively to us by The National Archives. It means these precious records are accessible, commitment-free, for everyone.

For all 12-month Pro subscribers, there will be a 10% discount on any 1921 Census purchases.

Andrew

Andrew Report 27 Oct 2021 10:39

You can search for free, but I don't think I'm going to look at to many records at those prices. I understand they need to recoup the costs. Hopefully the cost will come down after an initial period.

Yes, that's how I read it, thank you. We can but wait and see.xx

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 27 Oct 2021 10:24

I would imagine we can search for free, you can for other records, and how else will they tempt us in to purchase an image or transcript?

Also it does say

"these precious records are accessible, commitment-free, for everyone."

so that would mean you must be able to search for them, even if not a FMP member.

And yes, you pays your money and hopes for the best - bit like buying bmd certs , especially before the GRO site indexes added mmn to pre 1911 birth index.

Could be a painfully expensive process... :-(

Deborah

Deborah Report 27 Oct 2021 10:11

Thank you Kucinta, do you think we can search for free and if we think its what we want we ask for the transcript or actual record.

If so, and we think its the record we want, we wont know until we have paid for it, and it could be the wrong one. (hope that makes sense)

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 27 Oct 2021 10:05

The 10% discount is only available to folk with the 12 month, Pro subscription ie the most expensisve one.

It's £2.50 per transcript of the record.

It's £3.50 for the actual census image
