I m looking to find the parents of James Entwistle 1815. He was married to Hannah Warburton 1809-1890 and had a son also James born in 1847.

There are quite a few baptisms for the name James Entwistle in Lancashire so it's difficult to know which is the correct one.

This looks like their marriage:-

First name(s) James
Country England
Last name Entwistle
Volume 21
Marriage quarter 3
Volume as transcribed 21
Marriage year 1844
Page number 211
Registration month -
Record set England & Wales Marriages 1837-2005
MarriageFinderâ„¢ James Entwistle married one of these people
Mary Scowcroft, Maria Woolsterholme, Rachel Duckworth, >>>>Hannah Warburton<<<<
Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records
District Bury
Subcategory Civil Marriage & Divorce
District number -
Collections from Great Britain, England
County Lancashire

The marriage certificate should name his father (if he knew him) and the witnesses might give some clues.

They are from the Bury area and I am sure the first one is them but dont think the second can be as the ages aren't right.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 28 May 2022 17:58

The ages on the second census (1841) posted by ArgyllGran were rounded down to the nearest five years so they would be the same couple.

I don't see any births of Entwistle/Warburton children in Bury. (Nor variation of spelling.)

How do you know he married Hannah Warburton?

His wife was born in Bolton (per 1861 census), or Edgeworth (per 1871 and 1881 censuses) , although Bury (per 1851), and just Lancashire per 1841.

Thanks ErikaH. Ihad originally added the 1815 biirth to Susannah Entwistle to the tree but then wondered if I was wrong but looking at the suggestions made, I think that this is the most likely one. I don't thihk the Isherwood connection is right but will at have a look again at the info I have got and get back to you. Thanks for your help everyone and you advice.

Yes, I'd noticed those births, ErikaH, while looking for a recurring mmn .

Weighing all the info up it seems as if it could be either as there is no definitive proof pointing to one or the other. There were a lot of Entwistles around in Lancashire at that time. In this case it makes my initial request null and void as I may have the wrong strand anyway. Frustrating but thanks to all of you for your input.

katqueen

katqueen Report 30 May 2022 17:07

After looking again and weighing it all up I am still leaning towards James being married to Amelia Airey and his parents being James and Hannah. It isn't definitive is it though so would probably be best not to add either.

katqueen Report 30 May 2022 17:57

Seeing as Argyll gran' s posts suggest it was just as likely that he was married to Anne Isherwood I fail to see how you can be so certain. I may be missing the point here but as I am doing the tree for someone else I want to be certain the information is correct and I don't like being spoken to in that patronising manner. I am aware that you are an
"expert" and myself an amateur but that is no reason to treat me as an idiot. At the end of the day my original request has not been addressed anyway but again a big thankyou to everyone for your input. It was much appreciated.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 30 May 2022 18:36

We think that it was James 1847 who married Amelia Airey.

James Entwistle (c1816) and Anna /Anne/Hannah Isherwood were probably his parents.

But as you say, there's no proof of that, as James Entwistle was a common name in the area.

You have actually confirmed what I just said. I repeatedly thanked everyone for helping me and I find your reaction childish. Whatever you choose to do is your decision but once again I will say thanks for all help and suggestions which I have taken on board.
