Marshall Sills died in 1918

Denburybob Report 20 Nov 2023 20:05

That name has cropped up again. A Marshall Sills is in the same household as Edwin T Sills, born 1902. He is obviously Edwin's brother. Is this just a coincidence?

Denburybob Report 20 Nov 2023 19:57

So far I can find no children of this marriage from 5 years prior to and 10 years after in the Nottingham area.

Denburybob Report 20 Nov 2023 19:40

The marriage cert for Edwin Sills and Lily Spencer arrived today, confirming that she is "my" Lily. The marriage was witnessed by Thyrza Spencer, who was Lily's mother, and her father is given as Kennel Man. This all ties in nicely. Curiously, the other witness was Arthur Marshall. Amy Spencer's child Cecily (Cicely) had the middle name Marshall, and the name crops up elsewhere. I am wondering whether a Marshall was the father. Now to get on searching.

Denburybob Report 9 Nov 2023 19:54

Yes, I noticed the death. I will send for the cert when I am sure this is the right Lily.
That's enough for tonight. Sleep well.

Denburybob Report 9 Nov 2023 19:49

I can find no children of their marriage, but Lily was 36 at the time of her marriage.

ErikaH Report 9 Nov 2023 19:44

Not sure you need it :-S :-S

Did you notice the death?

Denburybob Report 9 Nov 2023 19:43

Too impatient to wait for the Stevenson cert, I have sent off for the Sills/Spencer cert.

Denburybob Report 9 Nov 2023 19:34

According to the death cert, Amy was living at 44 Broomhill Rd at the time of her death, as was her sister Lily. Actually, that might be 77.

ErikaH Report 9 Nov 2023 19:28

Wait until you get the Stevenson one.......................

Denburybob Report 9 Nov 2023 19:25

How did I miss that? Another certificate to send off for.

Lily Sills 04 Sep 1898 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 148 2

ErikaH Report 9 Nov 2023 19:04

Edwin Sills m Lily Spencer in 1934. You will find it on freebmd

You said you'd ordered the Stevenson marriage cert...............when it arrives, you will have more clarity

Denburybob Report 9 Nov 2023 18:42

Well, that has muddied the waters somewhat. The Death cert for Amy Stevenson arrived today, and her death was reported by L. Sills, her sister. I am fairly certain that her sister Lily died unmarried. So I probably have the wrong Amy. More checking necessary.

Denburybob Report 2 Nov 2023 17:55

I made contact with them a couple of years ago. One very productive, the other not so. We have met up with a second cousin of my wife through GR.

ErikaH Report 2 Nov 2023 14:59

Amy is in a couple of GR trees other than yours..................try making contact
