She may simply have disliked the name Lizzie, and changed it. One can use any name as long as it isn’t with intent to defraud or deceive.
My stepmother was registered as Martha, but used the name Maisie all her life.

Thankyou all for your responses, It looks like Lydia and lizzie could be the same person?
I just do not understand the name change on the documents?

marriage certificate says Lydia but the birth records show Lizzie.
I'm not really understanding why that would be.
How do I view the original records?
thankyou all

IF above correct then

Marriage -

Transcript - Richard Ellis to Margaret Hartgross 3 October 1815 at Little Dunham

Looking at original her surname may read Hartgrow/Hartgrove

By licence - with consent of parents.

A further record says his parish was Munford and hers Little Dunham.

The Marriage Licence record gives his age as 24 hers as 21 and last name Hartgrove
A " guarantor" on the licence paperwork is a Robert Ellis

Trying to find Baptisms for the other children on FMP as those above.-

There are baptisms to a Giles and Ellen Caulder and Walter and Charlotte in Norbiton - each Father shown as a Greengrocer- around the same time.

Arthur George and Bertie are on Ancestry.
Bertie is listed as Belia also with wrong DoB, so presume mistake by original transcribers

greyghost

greyghost Report 21 Oct 2025 17:02

Bertie was Baptised 30 November 1900 at All Saints, Witley,

DoB born 13 May 1888. HIs abode is given as K.E.S. Witley as are several of the other entries - probably King Edward's School

(This same happens for several entries)
