Hi Again ! Does anyone know if there is a register or anything for teachers in the 1800s ? My ancestor John Beckford is shown on the 1861 census in the Union Workhouse in Ware, Hertfordshire as a School Master and I would love to know a little bit more about this. Thanks in advance, Marie.

I think you will find teacher registrations for 1870-1948 on the British Origins site. Barbara

If you put the query on the Records Office Board SKS has the records and will look it up for you.
