Ok Grandad, He was Robert Stead, son of William and Mary. I have been told he was married to someone else before my Gran. I cant find proof of this. There is supposed to be children too. Story goes that she (wife 1) ended up in the workhouse with her children in Pickering. I cant find anything to do with them at all. Details are:- Robert Stead b. 1880. Wife 1 ? Wife 2. Ada Elizabeth Watson. They were married in 1925. Thanks again eveyone.

Yes, thats them. I have the Census info for him. It's the first marriage that I can't find - if it ever existed of course and the children, before 1925 when he married second wife.

He only had one name though. Robert. I really think they are mixing him up with one of his brothers.....I know two brothers died and left family, Maybe he just supported them and or one wife and his nephews and nieces and people thought it was his wife!

Paul, not the births - they are all in the wrong part of Yorkshire. But both the marriage's you found could be. I will follow those up and see what I find. Thanks.

I don't know anything about the 1877 one. Have not seen him before. I definately have my date right for 1880 and Wrelton as place of birth. That other one could have been the same family but Wrelton population in those days had loads of Steads with the same Christian names.

OK Just for completeness the two scarborough women were Elizabeth Jackson and Annie Crow. It maybe worth trying to find a death for them. Cheers...Paul
