Hi everyone, It's so good to find so many people researching Leicestershire. I have traced my fathers side (Haines) to 1830,where I am now stuck. On the 1861 census they are in Queniborough. Thomas Haines brn circa 1830. I need to get hold of the 1851 and 1841 census or visit the record office in Wigston to go further. Any Tips? as I am new to this game. Where do we get the census's from, how much do they cost? and is anyone as excited as me about all this?? I am visiting Wigston on the 1st Nov to meet a 1st cousin(I didn't know I had!untill contacting GR) and to look at the records office, library etc. I might detour to Quenborough aswell.

Hi Mike & Beverley Thankyou so much for your help, that little lot would have probably taken me a good year or so to work out ! It does look as if Joshua could be the father to Mary Ann & Eliza. Grandma drives me nuts with this side of the tree she insists that Lucy Newell`s mum is Mary Polly Barrett even when I have shown her the birth cert with Mary Newell stated as mum and no dad present, she does say there was something funny went off in the family ( inter-breading maybe ) never to be talked about ! Dont understand how she knows as she didnt come along till 1918 The only solution I could dream up was Mary has taken the Newell name as if she was married ?but couldnt decide which one of the Newell fellas was the father so left it blank, but cant find a birth or marriage for Mary Polly Barrett to any Newell.........??? Mary Newell apparently, died about 1948 in Leicester, so I really need to get to the Leicester Archives so the digging can commence. Thankyou again Debs x

Must get use to this new screen it's like a wide screen ....lol :0)))) Mind you I don't think Caroline would like being put down as a ' Stone Quarryman' on the 1891 Census returns ? ..ummm But That's what it stated .... Hi Debs and Mike on 1891 where its got Joshua ,Eli as brother in laws with Lucy as Grandaughter they are living with a George and Harriett Hill. There was a Harriett Newell birth 1833 birth Littlethorpe so Harriett is probably there sister. Also on 1871 they are still living with George and Harriett but this time with Mary A as Niece. Eli is a widower so he might be Mary A Father Bev

Greeting’s Again Shelia……. I’ve tracked William back through the Censuses 81,aged 64. 71,Aged. 53. 61.Aged 42. Although ages do go up & down but the Occupation remains the same..Carpenter. And place of birth stated as Unitied States, America. And in 81 has it down as New Yorkshire ? Not sure for the 1851 Census these look interesting…….. Just wonder if the elder William (59) is his Father….. Going on the Occupation ? Or could William have been in the States for this One ? ….. 1851. ANother one for you Mike What was the Workmens Home at 20 Bedford Street? My William Whitworth was there in the 1881 census. His son William was living with his Bodycote inlaws at 2 Denmark Street, not too far away. Interestingly William always told the enumerators he was born in America, but the 1881 specifically says New York. Wonder what that was all about? All the best Sheila

Please can anyone help - this is not so much a who but where? I have recently received a B.Cert. which states Reg Dist- Leicester, Sub District -North West Leicester and actual address is given as' back of No6 Grove Street Leicester'. The only Grove St. I can find is in Swadlincote, which is actually in Derbyshire (just outside N.W. Leics Boarder) Would you go for Swadlincote as place of birth or would you assume Grove St. should be Grove Rd (or similar) - and presumably Parish Records for Swadlincote will be in Derby? - knowing my luck!

Greeting's Again M' Duck.... I'll look forward to that meal when I'm in your neck of the Woods then...:0) I continued the search today at the Records Office which was not so far away as last time ....lol :0))) Trawled through :- Willoughby Waterless,Cosby Whetstone, Blaby,Narborough, Enderby & Countesthorpe. But drew a Blank for the Second Marriage in fact I didn't even come across the 1st. one 1872. to Elizabeth.....:0( Just wonder if they were non-conformists ? I did come across Louisa Page ~ Henry John Ringrose's Marriage though......... He was 29. and Louisa was 23. Louisa's Father was William Page (grazer) Whetstone. Henry's Father was John Ringrose. (Grazer).in Countesthorpe. Both Henry & Louisa signed by they own signature and both Fathers were the Wittness..... MIKE. xxx
