Hi Jess Thanks for your kind offer - can you work your magic for me, please? I found a family on 1871, only to lose them in subsequent years. I've tried every possible trick I can think of, but no luck. Here they are in 1871: Kate Ramsey abt 1833 Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England Wife Bethnal Green London George Ramsey abt 1835 Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England Head Bethnal Green London Kate Bamsey abt 1860 Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England Daughter Bethnal Green London John Bamsey abt 1864 Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England Son Bethnal Green London The Kates are also known as Catherines, and the surname should be Ramsey. Fingers crossed! Debbie

Found them in 1871 - finally. Transcribed as Ducknorthe, obviously. Robert Duckworth, Head, 34, Porter b Salford Sarah, wife, 33, b Salford Sarah H, dau, 12, b Salford Mary A, dau, 14m, b Manchester Elizabeth Lawless, boarder, 23, fustian cutter, b Warrington living at 11 Watson Street, Deansgate, Manchester. They were still living there, but at no 24, in 1872 when they had Nancy. Now, 1891 anyone?

Rachel Report 29 Sep 2005 16:12

Bernice Thanks for looking for them too. I might keep an eye on that Robert, it could well be him. I just think they are there, just a major transcription error away! Another maybe - there's a Sarah H Duckworth married in Salford in 1879 to Thomas H White she could be the 10 mnth old in 1861. When I look at the census page 1881 for Robert & Sarah Duckworth, there are Thomas White, Sarah White & baby Sarah H White 2 doors away. Maybe ..... If only I could find the family in 1871! Rachel

Jess, I have tried to find this family before without success. Maybe you will be able to succeed. I hope so. Found on 1841 census, Barugh, Barnsley District Dellamy HEWITT (Dellamy spelt different ways and he is also known as Dally and Daley), head, age 20,coalminer Elizabeth, age 20 Mark, age 5 Martha, age 3 Joseph age 1 Thomas, age 9 months? Apparently 1851 for the district either doesn’t exist or is illegible. 1861 cant find them anywhere although there is another Dallamy Hewitt on 1861 but he is too young to be the one I am looking for but with a name like that he must be related in some way. By 1861 there should be a daughter Ann HEWITT, born according to later census, in Gawber, Barnsley, abt 1846. By the time of Ann’s marriage to George CARR in 1866 her father is deceased. Daley Hewitt as he is called on her marriage certificate. In 1881, there is a Joe HEWITT age 41, born Higham, Barnsley living as a boarder with Ann and her husband, George Carr and family at 47 Providence St, Barnsley. I have assumed that this Joe HEWITT is Ann’s brother, son of Dallamy and Elizabeth shown on 1841 census. This is a definite brick wall for me so any help would be so very much appreciated. Jenny

Jess I've been trying to find them for ages, am beginning to think they must've gone on a nice long holiday around the time of the 1871 census! I've gotta go to work now, unfortunately, I hate night shifts! Thanks for looking, maybe one day they'll miraculously appear! (fingers crossed). Will wait for the marriage cert, see what Robert claims to be doing for a living and maybe their fathers names might help. Only got Nancy's birth cert through today which at least helped me to find the marriage reference. Thanks again. Rachel

Rachel

Rachel Report 28 Sep 2005 21:29

Jess Just you keep going there! Just found their marriage in 1857 &, I think, them in 1861 with a 10 month old called Sarah. He was a beer retailer & they have 2 lodgers both called NK! I'm gonna order the marriage cert but I thought the occupation might help you. Unsure if baby Sarah survives. Thanks very much for this. Rachel
