Hi Jeanette, Have just finished my first census, all 4,152 entries Hooraaay!!!! and have e-mailed my co-ordinator to find out what to do next.If I've not made too many mistakes maybe he will let me do another one. Mind you the garden is fighting for my attention at the moment.I put out the tubs and hanging baskets a couple of days ago and today we have had brilliant sunshine and then thunder and lightning and torrential rain and huge hailstones the grass was white and then back to sunshine. Our weather!! you don't know where you are. Hope everyone has had a good weekend. Geraldine

Well done Geraldine! Not had a bad weekend thanks. Spent yesterday recovering from my birthday celebrations on Sunday night! lol. It's a little bit cooler and overcast here today, but at least it's not raining so the kids can get out and play. Jeanette x

Morning All From SSCENS field discriptions Standard Rule for Age If only a number is enetered, it will be converted as 'years'. Thus 46 or 46y will be converted to mean '46 years' *y (Years) maximum value = 120 *m(Months) maximum value = 24m *w(Weeks) maximum value = 20w *d(Days) maximum value = 30d Hope that helps. Now here's something I wish I'd read before! Scholars must be between 2y and 17y. Outside those limits a 'Scholar' will need to be transcribed as 'Student (orig: Scholar)' I know for sure that I had an 18 year old scholar the other day when I was transcribing. So looks like I'll be searching through my transcriptions today then! Jeanette x

Hi Jeanette, Thanks again for your message this morning. Had to put a thread on tips board as installing FTM2005 has for some strange reason stopped me from opening my FREECEN CD - and all my other ones as well. So transcribing is at a halt at the moment. Just posted this on here in case anyone has any suggestions. Think I will have to uninstall FTM and see if I can then open any of the CDs. If only to prove if my computer has a problem. Maureen

GlitterBaby Report 8 Jun 2005 15:57

Hi Jeanette, Just to update earlier message. Have removed FTM - rebooted - and now the CDs are working okay. So back to transcribing for a little while. Will try to put FTM back on later and see if this again causes any problems. I do hope no further problems as might have to choose between transcribing and doing my family tree LOL!!! Well done to Geraldine for finishing her area. Maureen

Hi Maureen Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner but I've been enjoying the sun as you suggested! lol Glad you've got your problem sorted out - for now! As it happens I sometimes have a bit of a problem with my FreeCEN disc. If I shut my computer down while it's still in the disc drive, when I next turn the computer on the disc drive has disappeared! So I have to take it out, shut my computer down, reboot and put a cd in that starts automatically. Then I have to take that one out and lo and behold when I go into 'my computer', my disc drive has miraculously reappeared! Does anyone else have any problems like this? I thought it might be the discs, but mine's from Archive CD Books and yours is from the LDS isn't it? Jeanette x

Hi Jeannette Mine is from Archives Books and had no problems like you say you have at times--are you sure your cat hasn't been peeing again on the cables---lol

Hi Jeanette, Really strange about the effect that FTM had on my machine. Loaded it yesterday and have obviously shut down since then. The problems arose today when I put the FREECEN CD in machine. None of my CD's registered as even being in the machine - even those that opened in Acrobat. So have taken FTM off for the time being - so it looks like transcribing has won for the time being LOL !! Question on relationship abbrevations. I have a great grandfather in law so I have put granpa and a 'x' for the time being. Maureen

Hi Maureen I think you've done right there. I can't find anything which gives an indication as to what else you could put. Ann LOL. That poor cat gets blamed for everything in this house. Mind you my computer has never been the same since the modem incident! But she's got a new party piece now. I forgot to pick the ashtray up off the floor before going to bed the other night. Got up the next day and - you've guessed it - it was full of wee! I can't do do that and I'm a third of her age! lol Jeanette x

Jeanette, PMSL - or perhaps I should have said something else. At least my two dogs have not tried the ashtray yet. Maureen P.S. sorry not yet decided which name I am going to use.

Hi Jeanette, Just sent my third area to Carol for checking - just over 3,200 lines. Wish I had never put FTM2005 on - its off for the moment - but ever since that day my machine does not shut down properly. A few other minor hiccups as well. At least I can now open/read my CDs. Hope the weather is better your way as wet and miserable in Bridlington. Maureen

Hi Maureen Well done to you! Just shows what you can get done when you stay away from this site! lol. I really must knuckle down myself. You're putting me to shame! I went to visit my 2nd cousin once removed (!) the other day. She has just got FTM2005 and is experiencing lots of trouble with it herself. It seems to be totally different to the problems you're having though. The weather turned nasty here about 4 o'clock and it's quite cold too. Flaming June eh? Have you noticed, some replies seem to have disappeared off this thread? Jeanette x

GlitterBaby Report 12 Jun 2005 19:43

Hi Jeanette, Oops back to my old name. Had not noticed that any replies were missing. Did not delete any of mine in case someone else gets the same type of disk as mine. Strange about FTM and problems - will have to contact their technical section and see what they suggest. Flaming June - over night temp is forecast as only 6. Got the e-mail from Carol yesterday. Checked the link to FREECEN to see if my 2 completed areas where on yet - but only one has been checked so far. Maureen

Morning Everyone As Maureen mentioned, Carol sent an update out at the weekend. Hope you got yours. How are we all doing? So far I've got one online, one being checked and I'm in the process of transcribing my third. Please send a reply to Carol. She loves to hear from us all. Even if we haven't managed to get much done, she likes to know that we are all still doing a little bit! Jeanette x
