Hello Sally Just got a new birth cert from GRO - pretty much per expected date (2nd class post on 12th, arrives 14th - seems ok to me!). John CHAPMAN b 26.5.1838 Sheepwash parents: John CHAPMAN (maltster) & Mary nee BALSDON of Sheepwash (doesn't say where/when the parents were born of course!) If you can find them for me - presumably in Sheepwash, or possibly Black Torrington or thereabouts, I should be delighted. thanks Christine

I'd be interested in anything about the following families in Black Torrington & Sheepwash: CHAPMAN, John (b May 1838, Sheepwash), John (John's father, a Maltster) BALSDON, Mary (wife & mother to the two Johns above) HALL, Ann (b Feb 1845 Black T, wife of John Chapman junr), William (her father, a servant) HORN, Mary Ann (Ann Hall's mother, b 1814-5 Black T) I haven't managed to track them at all before 1871, except for BMD certs. John and Ann CHAPMAN and her mother Mary Ann HALL (as they were by then) I do have from 1871 onward. thanks Christine

Hello Sally Many thanks for all the look-ups. Have copied & pasted them into Word, where I can play around with them. Just at first glance, Mary Ann Hall, the draper/grocer looks a pretty definite hit. Thank you very much, indeed. best wishes Christine

Hi again Sally, You don't know how much that look up helped me! Thanks again. Trouble is, it's got me so excited I now need to find brother John Lavers, born 1827 and parents John and Mary/Marianne. So if you would, could, I'd be forever grateful. Davina
