Rick Report 19 Apr 2004 20:50

Yes thanks Jo, I did. Makes a change to be surrounded with live rellies ! Saw a cousin for the first time in 15 years. First thing she said was "Mum told me you had lost most of your hair". :-(( At least I don't have to worry about going grey ! Rick.

Unknown Report 19 Apr 2004 21:27

Sussie, "do" is whats before, hope this is right, I put the surname or place what ever as it was on the written line. As for the floppy I think it should show do you want to write over or words to that effect and click yes to save the whole pages again. I haven't actually saved mine to floppy yet. I'm sure some one else might give better advice.

Glad you had a nice time, Rick. Must be meeting up with relatives week. I met my Aunt this weekend, first time for 9 years. Dont worry about your hair just look out for the greying brows!!!! LOL Best wishes, Jo.

susie manterfield(high wycombe) Report 19 Apr 2004 21:33

jo thanks:) the do is instead of the surname ive saved the first 3 pages to floppy and then my excel came up blank,so ive done 2 more pages on the blank excel spreadsheet so im hoping that when i go to save these it doesnt overwrite wats on the floppy:( RICK!!!!!!! where are you..i need you...lol susie

Unknown Report 19 Apr 2004 21:41

Sussie, I would have thought if you saved it to the floppy and not saved it first as it was on excel then that was it. You would get a blank excel up again because nothing was saved on it. If that makes sense, hope Ricks looking out on this! Please dont take my word for it see what else is said.

Hi Susie & Jo ! Do is short for ditto, which is a repetition of what came before. The notes say to transcribe the actual name, not the ditto or do - sorry ! Did you rename the first file you transcribed into to something other than blank.xls Susie. If you didn't, you will overwrite it if you save this one with the same name ! Before you save what you're working on, open up My Computer and double-click on the A: drive - tell me what you can see. Rick.

rick it says floppy disc (a) i opened it up and the first 3 pages of wat i have done are on the floppy i tried to save the next few pages but it just keeps telling me that this file already exists:( susie

Rick

Rick Report 19 Apr 2004 22:00

Susie, That's good because you could lose the first 3 pages if you save it with the same name. Take a deep breath cos it's just about to get complicated ! Do you sstill have what you've done tonight on your screen ? If so, open up what's on the floppy drive as well. You should then have the little X symbol down at the bottom of your screen twice, both saying blank.xls. Is that what you can see ? Rick.

rick yes it is

Unknown Report 19 Apr 2004 22:06

Your better with words Rick than I am. Thats what I meant for do(ditto) Hope you get sorted Susie. Good luck. Jo

Rick

Rick Report 19 Apr 2004 22:09

Good ! So the one on the left is probably what you've been doing tonight & the one on the right is the first 3 pages. If so, click on the one on the left. Go to the first row you type in tonight - should be row 4 - and click on the number 4 at the very left of the window. This should highlight row 4. Use the page down key or scroll bar to go down to the last row you typed tonight, hold down your shift key and click on the row number of that row. It should now have highlighted all of the rows you typed in tonight. Click Edit, Copy and then click on the other file at the bottom of the screen (the right hand one). Let me know when you've got this far :-)

Hi Karen, I think Susie's opened up a fresh copy of the blank.xls spreadsheet with nothing in it and typed the next few pages in there. Right Susie ? Rick.

Rick Report 19 Apr 2004 22:24

Yes Susie, but you don't want to lose what you've done tonight though. If you want to keep it you're going to have to follow the instructions I put down below. Not going to chicken out on me here are you ? Happy to walk you through them one at a time if you like.
