http://www(.)historicaldirectories(.)org/

Useful freely accessible site with many, if not all the major local, town, city and county directories, searchable by decade or by county.

Especially useful if your ancestors were tradespeople. And the directories often seem to have good local history chapters, information about places of worship etc.

http://freespace.virgin.net/guy.etchells/ - a great one with lots of bits about Bottesford, Leicestershire and its parish records from c.1550-c.1850 (also includes many useful links)

http://katesfamilytree.wetpaint.com/page/Clitheroe+Gravestones+Directory

This is my own site with gravestone transcriptions from two churches in the Clitheroe area of Lancashire

http://www.oldclitheroe.co.uk/ - this is another local one with photos on it

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ - Lancashire OnLine Parish Clerks (there are transcriptions for some parishes here)

http://www.bassetlawmuseum.org.uk/ - the Bassetlaw Museum, Nottinghamshire (the museum is closed till next spring but there are some searchable photo indexes on there, I think)

http://www.francisfrith.com/ - some pictures of old Britain here

Interesting websites:

www.arewerelated.co.uk - it has a certificate exchange, a large photo gallery, a family tree section etc etc

www.weddingspastandpresent.co.uk is very interesting if you had WW1 and WW2 relatives who were War Brides, help for searching for them is available, and a large photo album - all very interesting.
