Have done the best I can Trish Stryker...Striker same as corn striker, also a blacksmiths assistant Corn striker...Medieval measurer of corn into fixed sized drums to check quantity before pouring into sacks Filecutter...maker of files and rasps for woodworking/metal working etc Janet Brass finisher...Polisher of brass objects after manufacture Stick mounter and fitter... could this be walking sticks or canes? Gold and silver mounter... can't help other than the obvious Susie Huckster..Travelling salesman in small items, also a woman street seller of ale who was often also a prostitute Been busy pickling beetroot,sorry for the delay in replying Anne

Thanks Anne. Wonder what a 'pickler of beetroot' would be called in your little book! Bet you've got pink hands now! I usually do, but then you were probably more organised and wore plastic gloves! Janet

Nothing on beetroot but here are a few 'B's beg...A governor of a town or district bel or beldam..An old haggard woman belter...Bell maker berner....Person in charge of a hound pack bess warden or pinder....A town official responsible for stray animals besayle...Great grandfather belly builder....Piano makerwho makes the shell and interior of the piano Its damsons next, jam and gin Anne

I think a hewer cuts the coal from the face, and a drawer takes it away in a truck. Jan.

Hello Do you have an occupation in there of 'whaleboner'? One of my female relatives is described as such. Wondering whether it was perhaps a fishing occupation or someone who made corsets. Thanks A

If you can find for a couple more, what's an Anuitant (woman's occupation listed in occupation column, and is there anything in your book about 'bodger' a nickname, but may be based on occupation? Thanks.

A carman was a delivery driver - usually hired by the day, like a temp - an annuitant is someone who is living off the income from an annuity or pension. HTH. Maz. XX

Still very busy but found BODGER Bodger... A forest worker making chairs, spars, spindles etc from un-cured wood. Beetroot chutney next!!!!! Anne

A "BODGER" is a skilled craftsman who made wooden chair legs and spars using a lathe set up in home-made workshops in deep woodland.his work was often produced for chair companies

ANN, A Whaleboner put the whalebone stays into the corsets. That was the first job my Mother did after leaving school back in 1920's she got 10/- per week for and had to walk 5 miles there & back each day. MIKE.
