Does anybody know what date the 1901 census was taken. Looking for my G.Grandfather. He was born on 31st March 1901. Found 1 entry that says unregistered 6days. I understood that the census was taken on 31st March. Can anyone help me? Sarah.

I think you are right Sarah - I wouldn't take it as gospel if it says 6 days, it could be transcription error- it might have been 6 hours!, some of the census entries have been proven to be years out! Regards Maxine

Thanx Maxine. Sounds like GG.Grandmother squeezed a little harder just so he could be on census. Bless her. Sarah.

Census dates were: 1841 June 6th, 1851 March 30th/31st, 1861 April 7/8th, 1871 April 2/3, 1881 April 3/4th, 1891 April 5/6. Info taken from the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society Handbook. Sorry, didn't say the 1901 date but from the above you can't assume it was 31st March. Melanie.

Nothing of any significance sorry. Have you tried looking on the PRO website for the 1901 Census? It might tell you on there, I haven't been on for a while. Melanie

Sarah, The 1901 census was definately taken on the 31st March. Stuart Morgan put a list of dates on the Tips board on 2/7/03, don't know if it goes back that far for anyone to get a print off, but if not I have the dates if you want them. Cheers Stuart Kim
