My grandmother, Edina Madge Moya Carroll was born in Edinburgh to James Carroll, comedian and Kathleen Elizabeth Daisy Carroll, maiden name Crowe, on 25 January 1897 in Edinburgh. When she married my grandfather, Arthur Otter in Woodhall in the parish of Hemingbrough, East Yorkshire, in 1918 she was known as Madge Moya Horton, father Walter Horton, actor. I can't find James Carroll's death or Kathleen and Walter's marraige. Can anyone give me any clues as to where to look? Any help much appreciated. Many thanks Gill

Do you know when they moved to England?

Sorry, I don't have any more definite details. There is the possibility that Walter was part of a circus troupe at one time, but I don't know the name. Also that he owned a newsagents in Hull later in life, but how he came to be on Madge Moya's marriage certificate as her father I have no idea. Gill

I am just thinking, I can see that Walter Horton was an actor in various films 1910-1920, if this is him, and some of those films were comedy. Now actors quite often changed their names - have you thought of that - that these two men are the same person? Alison

Hi Alison. I don't think so. That's my problem, I only have a limited amount of information. I have a feeling I'm never going to find out what happened. Gill.
