Good on you gerri.
My mum was always someone who adamently hung on to her smoking habit because she enjoyed it.
On April 25 I sat upright on a hospital bed and held her up all night because she couldnt breathe,
no matter what I did she couldnt settle or lie down without the feeling of drowning.
She had gone into sudden onset heart failure because her Atriums had blown up to 3 times there normal size trying to pump blood through smokers lungs.
It was the most dreadful thing I have ever done.
They managed to get her heart rate under control and she will be on meds for ever more to control her heart function.
She stopped smoking on the spot thank goodness and her lung function has improved, but she is a shadow of her former self.
So if you can see the back of it know go for it,day by day because I wouldnt wish what has happened to her on anybody

I gave up in 1995 and we went to Hawaii on what I had saved after 18 months - looking back its frightening what cash went up in smoke

Hi all,
I stopped smoking for 18 months but last September we had a bereavement and a few other problems. I got so stressed & anxious and foolishly started smoking again. I can honestly say I really regret starting again but I'm afraid to try & stop again as it was so difficult. So please Dizzi, take my advice and do not do it. It only takes one and then you are back to square one. You will regret it!!!!!!!

My friend is having something from Boots. She was told if after two weeks she is still smoking to go back, and they do a counselling course. Don't know if that is free or not.
She coughs all the time when she smokes. Last year she gave up after hypnotherapy the cough went.
But she started to smoke again so the new thing from Boots.

Well done Gwen 16 months is a long time. I gave up 27 years ago and still sometimes fancy a puff. I hate them now so would never have that puff.

Well done Gerri, wish I could give up the dreaded weed, found I have been smoking more since being here and they are only about 40p a packet.

Well done Gerri, why not get one of those magnetic shape thingies, where you can make patterns (hope you know what I mean) You can fiddle with that then instead of lighting up.
Keep up the good work, and don't forget to put the money you save to one side, so you can get yourself something really nice as a reward.

The nicotine patches have been a great success with friends who are confirmed smokers from way back.
