Changing a name by deed poll........advice please

Thanks Budgie. I had a little Google about but it has conflicting advice. It says you often don't need to do it in one bit then says you sometimes need to in others lol. I'm confused. com.xx

My son changed his name by deed poll at 16, what do you want to know hun?

If i dont reply straight away its cos Ive gone to work btw,

Someone going through a messy break up wanted to revert back to maiden name ........ wasn't sure what they should do or where to start.

I reverted back without a deed poll. No probs!

There is no legal requirement to sign a Deed Poll, as you are allowed to call yourself whatever you like, as long as there is no criminal intent.

However, you may find that without a 'formal' document such as a Deed Poll you will have great difficulty in obtaining certain services, where proof if identity is paramount. Applying or renewing a Passport is one that springs readily to mind.

With this in mind, it might be worth checking to see what sort of documentation is acceptable. The general principle is that you must produce documentation, starting with your birth cert, confirming the change or changes from that to your current name.
