I had Buckinghamshire ancestors that ran them and ones in the Lakes. Ive liked the idea for a long while, Ive got catering quals through work now and health and safety etc.

Unsure how to go about it all, wondered if Id keep our house, and how it all works,

If you are Caz can you let my daughter move in.

She saw a bit of Coronation Street tonight and asked if we can live in a pub.

I made the mistake of telling her I used to work in one and Friday night was my fave cos after we'd closed we got our pay packets and a free drink while the landlord went next door to get us all fish & chips.

She's very good Caz, she won't be any trouble.

And she's 5 so she could be good company for your 5 year old or have I made that bit up - lol, it's Friday I might be mixing people up by now ;0)

parents used to run one, it depends if you want to manage one or buy one.

My parents were managers and we kept the house and rented it out for a bit but also used it as a bolt hole to get away from the pub!!!

You really have to do a good line on food to keep a pub going now, unless you are in a city centre and catering to the binge drinking crowd.

I used to fancy running a country pub, but got talked out of it when I spoke to various landlords. It's very restrictive.

I agree eldrick, I love the cooking side and would like the socialising with guests bit, most pubs round me are rural, except in Barrow, which is a big town.

caz i did for a while for a friend it was a mad pub and i was constantly tired , specky helped when he came in from work, caz its such hard work and can wreck your marriage especially if one of yous are drinkers , you sudenly have millions of freinds who want to keep you up all night drowning their troubles , you have to be happy 24/7 you have no life of your own , then the cleaning up of the over enthusiastic drinker the ones who miss the toilet , but ...........lol unless you get a quiet one highly recomended so look on line at brewerys and pubs to let but i dont think unless your cooking there isnt a fortune to be had , sorry caz yoou did ask lol xxxxx

I know it could be very hard work and yes the thought of all the punters pouring their hearts out does put me off! i see genteel people lol!!

Caz, my grandson has run a pub, but when the no smoking came in, the customers dropped off and with the bad weather almost every pub without food is closing down every day folk would rather buy their booze and drink at home where they can smoke, worth checking out ...

Well let me know then Caz.

I can pull a really nice pint.

Can be up there most weekends. Will stay in the pub and the kids will be very happy. And I agree genteel people who know when they've had enough and go home earlyish.

OMG.......I thought I would say this but Puss is right...lol

My sister did for 12 years.....and many the times we moved in for 2 weeks whilst she was on holiday...and yep its 24/7 you have plan your life and family round the business, with the no smoking bann this is a dying trade...killing off what the all day opening laws started...and its certainly isnt the life for young children...

My sister has been out of the trade for 3 and a half years now, it took her quiet a while to get their lives back on track they look 15 years younger, it nearly cost her, her health and marriage..

Caz, you'd be mad to do it hon. Wait until your kids are grown up and off your hands, all of them, and see what the trade is like then, but right now your kids need you around as much as possible and as unstressed as possible, and if you think money is tight now, then it would be much worse. Pubs closing down every day in Norfolk and I am sure it is the same everywhere. My cousin had a pub and a lot of my rellies working in the brewery business, it is a dying trade now.
Even if you got a pub with a garden you would never have time to do it, so concentrate on what you know best and get your house with a garden as soon as you can.
