Funny thing about life i find is this
If one disagrees with a religious view, one said to be a dissenter
equally if dissagreeing with a goverment in power, the term
anti establishment comes up.
And should one dare to offer an opinion for change--then one
becomes a radicule
If one speaks openly and expresses an opinion on a subject
others do not a gree with, one becomes politically in-correct
Why do I cherrish freedom in every sence of the word?????????????

Why is finding racist and intolerant dogma offensive dismissed as being politically correct?

Does freedom to express a view not accept that some people may have an opposing one?

If you value freedoms so much, you may wish to dwell on the fact that the recent societies to outlaw the expression of an opposing view or to challenge an assertion were not, in fact, free societies at all.

Yes, it seems to have been turned into a personal thing again.

Well, I'm not sure what in particular you are referring to, but I do feel strongly about certain things, thats for sure.

Its funny in a way that the people who post continuously about sugary things dont get any stick, lol - but because I stand my ground about racism, bigotry and followers of woo, I dont half get some grief, lol

Kind of throws the free speech arguments clean out of the window, eh!

Eldrick does have strong opinions but so do a lot of people on this site :-) I personally don't think there is anything wrong with having a strong opinion and defending your beliefs.

If someone posts something controversial, then they must expect that it could be challenged.

I would hope that 'both sides' would not let the debate get personal and show respect for each other even if they don't respect the person's views.

I would also expect/hope that if someone came out with something completely unacceptable that people would challenge it strongly. ie racist, sexist, bullying comments etc

If someone posts an opinion on something then they should expect others of a different opinion to come along and have there say.

We don't all think the same - we are individuals

I always say that with freedom of speech comes responsibility. Just because people 'can' post anything shouldn't mean that people should post anything.

Besides, although we have freedom of speech, some comments are in fact illegal.

Also it has amazed me that in the past when some people have quoted free speech in defence of something controversial that they have posted, they think it is their right to let their comments go unchallenged and want to deprive other people of their free speech to object to it. I always found that bizarre,

Well I am afraid that I vehemently dispute that I indulge in snide comments or innuendos. If I have something to say, I will say it quite openly. If you are suggesting this, please point me to somewhere where I have done this.

I keep repeating this, but I never ever launch into a personal attack on anyone - it must be pointed out, though, that others don't extend that courtesy in this direction and then they whinge and whine when it gets returned. Defence is allowed, even on GR!

If, however, you are suggesting that snide comments and innuendo are used in posts, then I agree wholeheartedly that they are and I find it reprehensible when that occurs.

I agree - it happens a lot for reasons known only to the authors themselves.

Carrie, I agree, I really dislike when people make pointed/snide remarks or post "innocent" threads which have a different meaning. I've seen that happen quite a few times on GR.

Carrie :-), may I ask what difference you see with someone 'defending their beliefs' and 'dog with a bone'?

Surely people have the right to respond to further comments made in a discussion?

I agree with you Carrie but I havent seen Eldrick ever do that.
Colin on the other hand started a thread today WHAT MR WIPER SHOULD KNOW IS THIS..which is taken over from another thread and aimed at Eldrick
