Pat.............this site has been a lifeline for me, well worth a look.

http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/talkingpoint/discuss/forumdisplay.php?f=25

Thanks Mau..............she is poorly today, refusing food and drinks, so probably yet another water infection:(

Terry...............I agree with you, it isn't a disease only of the elderly and even if it were, most of us will be elderly one day and we must all act now for our sakes as well as the present sufferers.

They told us that as well Pat..............but the rapid deterioration after it was stopped was frightening.

I pleaded to have her back on it, but was met with a wall of silence.

My Dad had it as well. Before I visited him every week,I used to take Rescue Remedy in the car in the carpark,so that I would be calm & not cry when I saw him.If I cried leaving him ,the staff said he would be upset after I had gone. What do you do? It's too late for him now.He was an intelligent ,cultured,
well educated man,& watching his deterioration,
especially after a bladder infection, was heart-breaking.We also had my OH's mother with it at the
same time.Doubly heart-breaking.They have both
passed on now,but anything that halts, lessens or prevents this horrible disease is very welcome, for
future sufferers. I am terrified of getting it,so try to keep my brain as active as possible.

Margotxx

PS I hear that dancing is good to prevent it,learning
new things to stimulate the brain, crossword puzzles,
learning or playing a musical instrument,etc.etc.

Oh Gwen, don't know why your thread was deleted but don't let things get you down.

I have a few problems looming but will talk to you soon, been too difficult this week.

My relative said the other day, she had been taken to see her husband with Alzheimer's, she is 88 and he is about the same age and has been in a home since before Christmas when she became too frail to look after him, that he had forgotten how to kiss her goodbye. She sounded so sad....
bless all who have to suffer this awful illness and their loved ones who have to see them like that.
I hope I am lucky and it doesn't happen to me.

Its nice to see a thread that could help members with info on Alzheimers ,Maybe GR will put this at the top of the page and leave it there so new members as well as old members can see where to get the info on Alzheimers , Lets hope GR do it

Good idea Barrie................I will ask them if no-one minds that is.

Gwen.................PD doesn't neccessarily mean you will get Alzheimers.

To have a body that refuses to do want you want and an active mind must be hell on earth for you...............Mum has an active body and no means to know or understand what to do with it.

Both ways are cruel, but I think as Mum is now is kinder than the way you have to live each day.

With Mum any distress she goes through is soon forgotten, she lives more or less in the moment, but you have constant remeinders that your body no longer allows you to do things and you have an idea of what the future holds.

When Mum's time on this earth is over, I want to be able to remember her as she was, not the shell she has become now....................the alternative name for AZ is The Long Goodbye..............we have gone through 8 years of it so far and it takes an enormous toll on all of us.

Chin up Gwen and know that we are always all here for you, travelling the road together.

xx

Hey Dizzi,

Love your name.

Thanks for your kind offer, but it might be a bit expensive sending the CD over here!!

I'm learning bellydancing-great fun- and I dance to lots of different kinds of music while I'm doing the dreaded H****W**K,they've all got to have a good beat, to make it fun.

What are your favourites??? Mine are Shania Twain,
Creedence Clearwater Revival,Elton John,John Denver,The Beachboys,Billy Joel,The Stones,Herman's Hermits,even Abba,and Cliff Richard,the Beatles,and anything with a beat that I can dance to.

XX Margot.
