I tend to ignore all hot matches that have only one match. I think that if they are related, as they add to their tree they'll re appear with more matches in the future.

I found my first cousin on my first lot of hotmatches and she was able to give me loads of information-admittedly other batches have been useless but I don't mind as atreasure may turn up again

As I always say, don't give up hope!
I have sent out hundreds of mails after receiving new batches of Hot Matches, and 99.9% of them were useless.
But - through Hot Matches I have found a third cousin and another couple of distant rellies that I would not now like to be without.
So don't give up!

I have recognised a few on my reports & some possibles too. On contacting one of the 'possibles', I found out that we were distant cousins & I was allowed to view their tree with some 1,400 names.

With permission, I was able to fill in a few 'blanks' in my tree. In fact, I was able to correct a few assumptions on my tree & was able to advise my distant relation of a few errors in their records. All in all, a worthwhile exercise for both parties.

Nevertheless, I agree that, so far, most of my Hot Matches are of no use - but I still like viewing them & do not mind the time I spend doing so. You just never know what information might turn up and, of course, there is also the chance of someone else contacting me if they spot a similarity.

Couldnt you just do a search yourself?

In the "Search trees" button above.

is there any way you can get a hot match that actually does match with your ancestors? i have been deleting matches that are mostly from everywhere else except from scotland and it's so time consuming.
