Whose idea was that?

After World War II, bringing up several children was encouraged to restore the birth rate.

And in 1945 the Family Allowance was introduced provide benefit for second and subsequent children.

What about the first-borns?

In 1975, then Labour social affairs secretary Barbara Castle put forward the Child Benefit Act proposing additional benefit for the first child.

And between 1977 and 1979, child benefit replaced the Family Allowance and Child Tax Allowance.

When was Child Benefit introduced? Mum says the 1960's if before then did she fritter it away lol

You have a good moan. We all know how much the country saves through families acting as full time carers. They rely on the fact that we love our children/parents/rellies and so take the financial burden from them. If you and others were paid the same as it would cost the state that would be fair.

I was reffering to the 'remembering family allowance being introduced,' bit

I look after my son who has special needs 27 years old 6ft 8in wash bath shave wash clothes well I could go on I get £50.55 a week for this, would of course do it for nothing but if I said enough was enough how much would it cost the goverment to keep him warm.

Aged BIL who is 81 has lost income because of the 10p tax band reform. His fuel bills are escalating as are his food bills. Luckily he is financially supported by a son.

The elderly and disabled who spend more time at home will suffer yet again through higher heating costs and they are being EXCLUDED from this 'bribe'.

I get a £25.00 Christmas bonus on DLA whoohoo I always have a problem deciding what it should be spent on. This year no problem it will buy about 3/4s of a bottle of gas :-((
