I was just sat here doing a little reminicing and in doing so I started to think of some of the large families I grew up with. I came from a family of 8 of us in our house, down the road there were families of perhaps ten children or more. I was recently chatting to my children who mentioned that they didnt really want to have children, apart from my one grandson. Cant say I blame them really although looking back those days of the big families were fun.

Were you brought up in a large family, have your own children had thoughts on large or small families for thermselves ?

Hi Colin... I am the eldest of 8 children... I wanted four or six, but had to stop at two due to complications....

Each of my sons has a daughter... and will probably not have any more, as my DiL's have decided enough is enough, lol!

i'm an only child and my OH is the youngest of 12.
we've got two children...we did want four but then realised that girls are soooo expensive so we stopped.

I am the tenth of 11 children have 5 myself but although I have 7 grandchildren they only have 1 or 2 each.

Strangely my husband is the eldest of 11 so we have 20 brothers and sisters between us.

Only last night one of my sisters was asking how the research is going and I told her I need to know more about the additions to the family as I have totally lost track now I am a great great aunt! This sister alone had 9 great grandchildren.

Mind you when we were young we could always get our own team up for games!!

i always wanted a large family as my friends had four kids and i loved being there but it didnt happen !!! i am the only child and get lonely i miss the buzz of a large family .
However the area I live now is full of large famillies but none are married and they seem to be bay factories which is really sad .a lot of them are taken into care too . Maz

I've only got one sister, although my dad is one of seven and my mum is one of four.

Possibly because I went to a Catholic school, I knew three people from quite big families. One friend was the sixth of seven, one was the sixth of ten and one was the fifth of eight (and my year were all born 1984-85) but none of them ever wanted children. In fact, two certainly came from quite dysfunctional families, but they had no interest at all in having children.

So they thought I was crazy when I used to go soggy over babies if I saw one! (Weirdly, I actually want three or four children - maybe you end up wanting the opposite of what you're raised with?)

I am the 14th of 15 children.My hubby is one of 6.
We have 4 children, 2 grandchildren.
My brothers & sisters and I have between us, 32 children omg!! and I haven't totted up great nieces/nephews.
We had some great times when we were little, although money was very tight, we never went without.As someone posted earlier, you've always got playmates when you come from a large family :)

I am one of 6, husband one of 5. We only had 2 children. Lost count of nieces & nephews etc. Loads of them. My best friend is one of ten, she had 3 children. We had hardly any money when we were growing up but never went without & we had freedom. Can't put a price on that.
