I've just changed mine after only 4 years - now have the Dell Inspiron something or other lol

My old one used to take about 5 minutes from input of my password, before the desktop even loaded lol

Much happier with my speedier new on with Vista :O))

I know my son 2 years ago took his old pc to dump but kept the hard drive and smashed it. Realised why when I saw programme beg this year or so on buying hard drives in Africa and getting financial and personal details off them for fraud/identity theft. I do not bank on internet but as son pointed out I have used credit cards to purchase items so inf would be there.

If you have the original start up disc and everything backed up onto a hard drive, then you could reformat and start again. Mine is also around 6 years old, has extra memory, but is not perfect. It has been reformatted once a couple of years ago, could do with doing again.

I would not be happy giving my computer away with the hard drive in, it takes more than the start up disc to clear the hard drive properly, they can still be read by those in the know.

Sounds like you need new one but if you have the original start up disc clear you stuff off it and give it to a charity, am sure someone would love it as a mess about pc. Jay.x

My PC is over 6 years old and son/gson both say it needs changing. Have to admit last couple of months driving me mad, slow and sticking etc. Is this a good age - feel it should last longer though I do notice prices are less than half of what I paid for present one.
