Harry -

I know that Glos quarter sessions records from 1837 are there, as I spent many hours going through them when I did a course there, years ago!

If you can wait until I go there next (poss Oct/Nov this year), I will be visiting Glos Records Office and can enquire for you, as I know more or less what to look for.

Feel free to PM me.

Very good thinking, Anne, will try that. Gwynne - got a copy, nothing more than A2A.
Watched the"who do you think you are" last night and they found Assize? records from way back which appeared to contain the original files. But 1832 is a long while ago.. ( as I have said before, if I don,t find my ancestors soon, at my age, I will shortly be able to ask them in person)
Many thanks Happy days

Harry,

If it's on A2A it will say where the document is held, if there is a reference number ask the RO how much they would charge to copy the document.

Have you asked Gloucester Records office if they ahve anything? They keep old newspapers, or at least the local studies section of Gloucester library used to keep old newspapers and it has all gone to the records office now.

Also Gloucester family History Society may know where to look for details

Gwynne,
Sure I put all this on Records office section.
I know, but I,m very, very much clutching at straws.
Spent an absolute fortune over the years on researchers who took me little further that I could go myself, and certificates which turned out to be useless.
All this is, is that a Hayes married a Jennings many years previously in another part of gloucestershire.
Happy days

If you can't get there yourself it may be worth paying a local researcher to look it up for you.

Lovely to see you, too, Harry.

I thought you probably would have tried along that route.

The only other thing I can suggest is, perhaps, to subscribe to the rootsweb mailing list for Gloucester to see if anyone has access, maybe, to newspapers, or can think of any other avenue to try.

Happy hunting ... and a special Happy Day for you, too ... :-)

Lovely to hear from you Joy. Afraid I,ve done that and it merely states as on A2A "william hayes assaulted Wm Jennings and the fine".
I have a connection in Cheltenham (and a great big brick wall) with those 2 family names, I hope, and was after chapter and verse of Williams antecedents.
Very best wishes and for you - a very special Happy days.

You could try sending an email to Gloucester CC, Harry -

Records for Criminals
Admission registers and other records of the County Gaol and Houses of Correction, 1780s to 20th century
Records of the Gloucestershire Quarter Sessions from the mid-17th century and the Petty Sessions from the mid-19th century

Long shot. Would anyone know where the records for the above are kept or even still in existence for 1832.
I have a record of a court case from A2A and library (the same as A2A) but thatonly gives bare details.
Need more info.
Happy days
