What about rellies that weren't deported, but possibly went to America after they were released?
My attempted train derailer is a potential suspect!! LOL

Have had a quick look at the link, but it seems only for UK convicts. Is there one for Ireland too?

I think you maybe need to put a separate thread up on, probably the Tips or Records board. title it Convict Australia or something and copy what you have put on here to it, unless me nudging this up gets you a response.

hi all,
not sure if Im in the right place and if yes I AM , dont know where to start.I have been trying to find out about my elusive 1st marriages family tree, has taken a while but am finally getting some imfo.but its very sketchy ,
The surnames I am looking into are Lindsall/Linsall/Linsell and Reynolds, this is mainly in Australia but I have found that they were convicts that came out on the second fleet for stealing or forgery or something in that line.I believe there is a lady in Orange in New South Wales here in Australia looking into the family tree, a member of the family. My conection to the family was Leslie Miller and his mother who was born in Bennilong, New South Wales in 1924 died in Bunbury in Western Australia in 1973. I f there is anyone from Australia or anyone who can sugest where I look would be gratefull,

regards,
CORI

thanks Susan, will do that another night, time for bed I think, my head is aching cos I have been on here too long altho kept interspersing with other sites etc

Just went outside, it's very cold and frosty but a lovely moon, and something in the sky, looked like a helicopter lights or plane lights as we are near the airport, but it hasn't moved and no sound at all. It's like a very bright star but flickering lights round it as if a firework going off but came back in and watched from the window for several minutes, an amazing sight! Wish I had a telescope!
Scared the life out of myself tho as when I opened the patio door where I was watching through when still on here, a black cat must have been sitting by the step and he shot off, scaring me for a bit lol!
Will say good night now, take care,

Lizx

Hi Liz,

You can also try other convict databases available online. Some will tell you the crimes. ( claim a convict being one ) Best to see if you have a name missing from your tree first though, or you could be claiming them all with your name :-)))

Oh dear, found quite a few with my family surname and some sentenced in areas close to where most of my lot lived, but don't know if they are really my ancestors. Is there anyway to find out what their crimes were Susan?

One got 15 years and left in the spring, by the September he was dead so either didn't make it or died soon after arriving.

I read somewhere that some people deliberately commited a crime just to get deported. Sometimes to be with family members or to get away from the poverty....bit like Russian roulette, I would have thought, because it was at the whim of the judge, in the early days of deportation, as to whether they were hung, imprisoned or deported, sometimes for the slightest of crimes.
