Mary. I am just a beginner at this tree business as well. I started my tree on GR and gave that up because of the problem of multiple marriages.

I then used Legacy which is an off line databse you can use to store all your information. I input all my information into that then created a GedCom thingy and uploaded the info into an Ancestry tree.

Then I made my biiiiiiig mistake and changed, deleted, added things on my Ancestry tree. This now means that I have to make the same changes to Legacy. Which means doing things twice.

I am now entering everything into Ancestry and when that is completed I will GedCom that info back to Legacy.

Still with me. I will then have an online tree and a computer database which is backed up in case something happens.

There are hundreds of ways you can do this. Just google family history and check out your options. By the way I really believe that GR is the very best resource for asking questions and receiving replies for family history research.

The expertise on here is second to none and is well worth the membership cost just to be able to tap into the knowledge base which is available. Try asking a question on another site and see how long it takes to receive any sort of an answer!!

Jeffrey, as I said at the beginning I have the same problem. GRs answer was for me to take out two memberships and have two trees. Strangely that did not suit me! No matter what tree structure you use I still find it a problem (in my case I also have an adoption to deal with). However at least in Ancestry you can add duplicate spouses and put in notes about the connections between the families.

I am wondering if the Family Tree Maker 2009 DeLux with 3 months
access to ancestry records is something for me...?

I need to get my family history "in order" have papers here & there !
I am not very advanced on computer sills..know mainly only the basics :-(
I have Windows XP and use Outlook express.
I need to get it all sorted so my children and grandchildren can have copies.

I live in Sweden but all my family history is in England.
Any advice MOST welcome ...

Simple answer - you cant do such things with the trees on here.

Simple solution - get a tree program on your computer and then upload a gedcom to here.

I have come across a situation where I've found a second marriage between two of my distant relatives. The problem is that I have already created these two people as a result of earlier info. The only way I can see to 'marry' them is to actually duplicate them which does not seem ideal - any thoughts ?
