By request.
Greaders is a group of people, and anyone can join, who enjoy reading. It came about four years ago when we wanted to test ourselves by reading books by different authors to the ones we would normally choose. Over the years we have read some great book and i would never voluntarily have read some of them. back then we also had a classic section but we don't any more as the people who were interested no longer belong to the group. In fact i am the only one left from the original group which is sad, some have left the site and some have found they no longer wish to belong. We used to have 10/12 members but sadly we ar down to about 5.
Every 6 weeks I put up a thread asking for 2 book suggestions, these are posted together with their synopsis. when all suggestions are in ( and when I have checked that we have not read any of them before) we vote for the two books we would like to read, but we don't vote for our own books. when all have voted, I post the books to be read and the date to be read by. We can choose to read either or both of the two books. On that date I put up another suggestions thread and also a thread on which to post our thoughts/reviews on the books we have read. nothing heavy, i have tried to get people discussing the books but that doesn't seem to work.
does that answer the question?
Like I said anyone can join and we would welcome new members with new ideas.

Hello Ann
I don't know if your stilling doing the GR readers group, but thought I would let you know about a a couple of books I have read in the last week or so. You may of already read them.
The first is Some sunny day by Annie Groves, the story is based on wartime Liverpool and the Italian ccommunity, Rose ( who has english parents) has been brought up in the said community and when mussolini joins Hilter the effect it has on everyone...lovely read
The second Book is The suspions of Mr Whicher...true story about the murder of a 3 years boy.The presentation of this book is fantastic, all researched from original documents. As lots of members will also be researching for their own FH, may find this really interesting fantastic read.

Do we have to purchase these books, or can we loan them from the library?
My OH wont allow me to buy any more books until I have read the 200 I have already!!! LOL (we purchased them from an auction, not knowing how many were actually in the Lot). They are all mostly the Classics, also Thomas Hardy, Dauphne du Maurier, Charles Dickens, and a tome, the complete works of Shakespeare. A bit high-brow for me really, but I love them to bits. I think that the old lady that had them before was an English teacher.
I think books are wonderful as everybody will read it differently, as probably your group has found out.
I also like real life stories and war stories, so Hayley your recent reads sound interesting.
May I therefore give Greaders a go Ann?

"My OH wont allow me to buy any more books until I have read the 200 I have already!!! LOL"
Lmao Tina :-) You sound just like me. I have load of books waiting to be read and no time to read them in while I'm doing my degree.
Ann, I've often followed the GReaders threads, in fact it was these thread that got me reading The Other Boleyn Girl, something I would normally never have tried, and I throughly enjoyed it. I don't join in because as I said I don't have the time to read while doing my degree. Even in summer break I'm hoping to get an head start on my degree and have loads to do round the house but maybe when I've finished next year and if I'm still a member I may just join in if you don't mind lol

Thank you Hayley, they both sound a good read, a couple to bear in mind. I have read some of Annie \groves but don't think I have read that one.
Tina, anyone can join in, whenever they want, doesn't have to be every time as long as we know who is with us any particular time. You don't have to buy, some do, some use a library. I think, without checking that the next book will be chosen at the beginning of June.
Going to have to wait a moment now before adding this, in Tenerife and have just lost the wireless connection.

Not in front of the Servants - by Frank Davis
Domestic service in England l850 - 1939
Very interesting, but makes you wonder why we complain about housework with all the labour saving devices we have now!
