No thanks Mel, I doubt if we are related as although my BIL and SIL live in the midlands, both are london born before they lived on the canals of the midlands..

Oh Mac................that sounds wonderful, I don't like the sea (too wavy ) but would love to go on the old canals or rivers.......as long as the water is flat:))

I have been going through my bargemen and they didn't live on the boats, just used to transport goods via the canal system.

Their families were in houses but the barges seemed to pass down from father to son.

Thanx Kitty I will be looking into them a lot ~ I read a book about a baby bein born on a boat and the family were carrying a cargo of coal up north the mother comment she could never keep the baby clean cos the coal dust ~ all pics of A's grandmother as a child her skin was tough n dark she never looked clean

A's Grandmother was a boatie, she was born on a boat lived and worked most her life on a boat and when she married became a landie! I know very little of their lives except they lived and worked the canals of the Midlands and that they hailed from Wales and Leicestershire ~ has anyone else got boaties in their tree?
