This year see's the first Armed Forces Day and a chance for everyone to recognise and pay tribute to the contributions of the three armed services. Why can't we have it as a Public Holiday instead of the ludicrous May Day

Isn't remembrance Sunday a day to remember those that perished? Is Armed Forces day similar to this or is it to recognise all those who served?

The focus of Armed Forces Day is on celebrating both the past and the continuing contributions of our Armed Forces and veterans. The intention is that Armed Forces Day will become as familiar and respected as Remembrance Sunday, which remembers and honours those who died serving their country.

In other words Armed Forces Day is a day of celebration and marking the past, present and future contrributions of the three armed services whilst Remembrance Day, remembers those who paid the ultimate sacrifice

Absolutely agree, Colin... except that neither of the May holidays are ludicrous, lol... Mayday is an old pagan festival... probably the first ever *public holiday* when the seed was mostly sown, so our ag lab rellies could safely be given the day off to drink, dance, have a few fertility rites, and generally make merry... the end of May holiday is based on the old Whitsun.... anyone remember the Sunday school treats in a dodgy field full of semi-dried cow pats and partly mown thistles, lol..... which is Pentecost, a religious/Christian celebration.

I think we should have it as well as... and another in November to celebrate a safe harvest, especially now that so many people are going back to growing their own veggies!!

Not at all greedy, me!!

Love

Daff.... who doesn't work anyway, so it doesn't make much difference to me, anyway!! xxxxx
