Glad you got to see someone Elaine & yes, do go and get a chest x-ray just for your own peace of mind. I am sure if the doctor thought anything sinister was going on, she'd have sent you there for it like a shot!!
Try and have a relax today and put your feet up:) x

I'm pleased you have been reassured Elaine and the x-ray will give you the confirmation you need right now.
Keep strong and I hope you feel a little better every day.

Hi Elaine,
I've been off for a few days, in bed very ill with food poisoning! & just catching up on what's been on here.
Sorry to hear you've been feeling so bad, glad you've been to the docs and that she listened to you.
I've had similar feelings at times. Last year I felt really ill, and could "feel" something in my chest. 1st GP gave me a low dose antibiotic without really asking any questions. They did absolutely nothing for me. Went back saw a different GP who said can't have been any infection there or the antibiotics would have got rid of it - sent me away saying have a lemsip if you like it! Went back again another week later feeling even worse (about 4 weeks after starting to feel ill) saw our favourite doc who listened to me, had a good listen to my chest, said there was a nasty chest infection there and it was exactly where I was pointing when I said I could feel something in there! said the 1st lot of antibiotics weren't strong enough and I needed a more forceful one, which she gave me. (And they worked) She also gave me a card for a chest X-ray which I went for and it was all clear, which really re-assured me. I'd honestly started to think I had a tumour on my lung and that by the time anyone took any notice it would have killed me. I was fobbed off by an emergency doctor on call about 14 years ago who clearly objected to me calling her out on a Saturday afternoon for no good reason when 1 of my 5 month old twins was ill. Within 12 hours of that I had to race him to A&E, the next morning they confirmed he had bacterial meningitis and that if they could keep him alive throughout the next 24 hours they may be able to save him. (Thank God they did and he fully recovered, but I know what would have happened if I'd not persisted)
I think we do all sometimes fear the worst and if we're run down it can be easy to "talk ourselves into" being really ill. And anxiety can show itself in very physical ways, it's not all "in your head." BUT we shouldn't feel silly for doing that, sometimes we need to listen to our body and respect it enough to pay full attention.
I hope you feel better in a few days Elaine, but go for that chest X-ray anyway, if all it does is put your mind at rest it will be well worth it.
Maria xx
PS sorry I've rambled on x

Make sure you have your chest xray, Elaine. That way you'll know for sure that you're ok. I see now why you are feeling scared but you'll be just fine.

Ello all...
Just got back after a 2 hour wait in the walk in centre I felt so ill this morning, keeping losing my breath that I just had to go.
Saw a lovely female doctor who patiently listened to my woes.
Lungs are fine, can hear nothing abnormal , checked my heart, thats fine too. looked at legs & said no DVT (was getting twinges)
Temperature was up a bit (wasn't up Thur) & my BP was normal, well upper end of normal which is normal for me :o)
Said she as sure there was nothing sinister to worry about but gave me a form for a chest x ray , not because she said i need it, or she feels something is wrong, but because if I still feel poorly in a few days and need reassurance (giving my mum died of lung cancer & obviously I was worried)
Thanks to everyone who replied on here, and via pm.
Your support has been appreciated x
Off to eat something, even though i dont want to :o((

I think we all do at various times and the GP's can seem to dismiss everything as "hormonal" with us ladies! *tuts*
I always feel lowest during the winter and only really cheer right up when the sun shines.
The last time it got really bad and I was obsessing about every little twinge, the GP gave me anti-depressants and I felt so much better in a few short weeks.
I hope you feel much better really soon.
xx

Morning ladies,
I think your correct we all have these thoughts at one time or another, I also think your half way there, Depression hits one in 4 people and its still sort of pushed under the carpet by admitting your not feeling 100% its when others close around see it and you refuse too when the problems start . you know what has to be done the visit to the doctor, when you get in to see him/her you then ramble on about alsorts for about 10 mins none stop and cry, then you stop and think OMG he/she will totally think I have lost it and have me sent away. When the ramble out burst out of the way your already feeling better, off you go with your (prescription if you need one ) mostly I do as my brian doesnt produce enough of the chemical that makes your feel happy so I take my pills for a few months to top it up. Winter is a horriable time for me..

Sorry that isnt actually what you asked is it. Yes I agree - think most people suffer with this at times to different degrees. Most of us are able to dispel these sorts of worry or put them to the back of our minds. Not everyone can do this or do it all of the time and that's probably when you need some extra help.

Someone close to me suffered with intense hypochondria not so long ago, morbid fear of death and so on. Went to the doctors, burst into tears and the very understanding doctor gave them a test to allay the particular fear, which of course proved ok, and started them on a course of mild anti depressants. Worked wonders - said person now has the control over the fears.

That's a good suggestion Sue.
Elaine is there a trigger for these times/moments??
Sounds like you need to talk it out with someone to 'exorcise your demons' so to speak.
But it's not nice feeling so down, I know how you feel. Last summer I scared myself silly with suicidal thoughts - after the 3rd time I was off to the surgery like a shot!!
Sending you some compasionate (((hugs))) xxx

How about you schedule yourself for a full checkup. Blood tests, liver function etc. This will set your mind at rest. Sure you aren't suffering from the "blues" Elaine? Worth chatting to your doctor.

Gawd Mildred love, all the time. Drs - what do they know eh? only been to Med.School for umpteen years as against our odd half-hours on the internet sites for everything from Malaria to Mumps!!!))))))
If its viral what you have, it's often worse thinking about the symptoms than the symptoms themselves (if you get what I mean?)
Cheer up love, when (and if) we get some sun today you'll feel so much better - it's this grey overcast weather that really gets on my tits! (ow, sorry can I say tits?) lol
Anyway love, chin up - trust me I'm a Doctor!

Who suffers from it ?
I think we all suffer with it to some extent sometimes.
You know, the small medical ailment which triggers a seed of doubt in ones mind. A niggle which becomes a worry when quite often a vivid imagination is to blame.
I feel I'm an occasional hypochondriac.
I ve been worried over something which has crept up over the last 3 weeks, something which In my opinion has got worse. I did visit the doctor on Thursday who said I would get better & not to worry.& told me to take 2 lots of painkillers even though i have no pain I may add. (first time seeing doc for myself in 2 years)
Trouble is now I'm imagining more things wrong with me every day in connection with the first problem I have. Common sense tells me to shut up & not be silly, but the irrational side creeps in with the doubts.
Ive just had a ruddy good cry. I wont put details on here on just how i feel, because I'm not after medical opinions which may worry me further.
This isnt a poor me thread, I really dont want sympathy. I just would like to know if others sometimes worry needlessly over things even when they have been reassured by doctors.
