I've been looking at some of them there Islington Iszards, Dizzi. However, the Thomas iszard I am looking for just turned up on the 1911 Census as the husband of Harriett Iszard (nee Wilkinson) out of nowhere. Harriett had appeared in 1901, with children and an unmarried sister, calling herself Head of family - no Thomas. There was a child Sarah, aged 9 in 1901, born to Harriett when she was about 16. I found a marriage for a Harriett Wilkinson in 1891, but it was to a Thomas Fry, not a Thomas Iszard, and the age for Harriett was wrong.

There is one Thomas iszard it could have been - but earlier censuses re that branch spell the name almost alternately Iszard and then Izzard. They seem to have been related to those by Essex Bridge. However, still no sign of marriage there. I got the certificate for the marriage of Harriett Wilkinson to Thomas Fry, and funnily enough, he had the same occupation as the Thomas Iszard, who turns up in 1911. Could it be the same chap? (Slightly different age). And why the name change? etc etc. Harriett Iszard was definitely my husband's great-grandmother - absolutely no doubt. A severing of family connections meant that he did'nt get to find out too much about that side of the family.

You are an angel Dizzi, and you have put yourself to a lot of trouble for me. I do thank you.

My last msg went phoof Dizzi, so here's another. You must be getting so warm here with the Thomas Iszard b. 1895. He is, without doubt, one of the sons of Harriett and Thomas Iszard, and brother to my husband's grandmother.

Brilliant!

Love you for this.

Take care, tho, please don't get too tired on my behalf, love.

Hi Merriweather

There was an Izzard fellah involved as a witness in the case of Henry Wainwright and Brother Thomas George Wainwright....of the Whitechapel Murder case ( 1875.....not Jack the ripper ).

Many of the witnesses were threatened when Henry was condemed to hang ( dec 21 1875 ) Thomas was given 7 years).

I have been researching these brothers and found that the children, as well as witnesses, changed their names to avoid the flack from the public.

If that wasn't bad enough.......one of the witnesses admitted to being married twice ( once at aged 15 ) with his first wife still living......both the accused chopped and changed their names to enable them to live with or marry another, having children by each woman. Some of the children were born under the assumed names ( took me forever finding them ).

My point being......from all the newspapers I have read in just these last few days...... and all the shenanigans going on, from the high to the low, according to newspaper and police reports,.....how we ever find anyone is a wonder.

EDIT:- The afore mention Izzard was John B Izzard and wife Emma
