Janet 693215 Report 14 Apr 2009 22:50

On Friday we went camping near Wickham Market in Suffolk.

Now as I have ancestors from around the area every time we passed a signpost I said "I've got ancestors from there" By about 11am on Saturday I'd been banned from using the words ancestor, family, folks, people etc.

Anyway, on our way home, we decided to try and avoid the major roads.

OH,bless him took me via three different villages (if you could call them that) that one branch of my family came from.

Having seen the area I can fully understand why they moved to Ipswich by the 1841 censusas there would have been far more opportunities for a young man and his family.

However, he did draw the line at investigating their home in Ipswich.

Perhaps I can persuade him later but I don't think theres much chance as I managed to get him to follow me round Glasgow (the best bits of the Gorbals) a couple of years ago!

Bless him, Janet (the innocent that he is LOL) convince him that the minor roads are soo much easier than the main roads.
There must be a minor road that leads into the part of Ipswich you're interested in - or perhaps there's an old pub where he could have half a pint (near to where the ancestors lived of course) to relieve the journey!!!
Maybe he's a fan of Giles the cartoonist - there's a statue of 'gran' somewhere in Ipswich. I think there's also a gross Victorian Museum full of stuffed animals there too!!

I think the gross museum is in Tring, Hertfordshire. We went there 18 months ago! I remember reading about their dressed fleas as a child. It's true, they have a troup of fleas wearing clothes.

As for the pub idea, that would just wind him up 'cos he likes a drink and I don't drive!

Maggie, I was going to mention the Giles statue in Ipswich too, it is outside a pub I think lol

Janet, there is a beautiful old mansion in Ipswich, in Christchurch Park, which you can look round or there is a lot of new development round the riverside area so lots to see, Ipswich is not a bad place to spend a few hours.

I am sure you can persuade him to take you there for a visit and look at the house during the summer.
