Has anyone had an email from PayPal saying something like

Dear PayPal Member,

This email has been sent to you by our PayPal Anti-Fraud Support Team. You are receiving this email because you have not enrolled in our Account Protection Program [APP]. To continue using the PayPal service, your account must be enrolled.

**Failure to enroll will result in limited account activity, account suspension, and/or deletion.

When I logged onto it I was a bit suspicious as it was asking for me to update all of my bank details but the site looks really authentic.
Then a notice flashed up saying that this website was suspected as phishing.
I may be totally wrong but I'm sure that recently I read somewhere that legitimate web addresses begin with http://
but this web address began with https://...........it had the letter "s" included.
Am I being over-cautious ?

I've done as you suggested. Did you ever get a response from Paypal after you reported your suspicious email ?

I've had this email a few times i just delete.

I've had quite a few like this - interesting as I don't have a PayPal account!!!

That is interesting. A request to update details that they don't even have in the first place and thanks Valinkent, I feel better about it now.

The give away is the bit where it says "Dear Paypal Member".

If Paypal ever do e-mail you then it will have your usrname in the e-mail and if anything does require changing it will ask you to log onto Paypal to do it, the e-mail will not contain a link for you to log on with.

Forward it to [email protected] same with suspicious emails from ebay to [email protected]

They will both acknowledge receipt and confirm that they are phishing emails.

I have not had one... I don't think... I would delete it anyway.
I would not give any details.
Things are becoming more frightening and it is sad, but we have to protect ourselves.

I just had a look.
The last time I had an email from them was to offer me a card.
I did not take one, but I usually keep things like that in a folder for a while.
Time to delete that one now I think.

It`s worth remembering that no legitimate company, be it a bank, pay - pal, or anyone you buy from on - line would ever ask for such information. A good rule is that if you ever get an e-mail which arouses even the slightest suspicion or doubt ignore it - better still delete it. I have had several similar e-mails, supposedly from Abbey National and Nationwide. These are scams by international crooks to get your bank details. The scary thing is that the logos on the e-mails are exact copies of the banks The same applies to `cold` phone calls.

I have received them several times and other ones saying a buyer has queried info on one of my items for sale .Thing is I did sign up for EBay to check an item my grandson wanted me to take a look at BUT i never activated any Pay pal account or put an article for sale on EBay so I knew they were phishing scams. My SIL had to practically have his hands tied down when he got one of the Pay Pal emails cos he is an avid E Bayer and he was going to follow through and click on the link cos he was gullible and thought it was genuine . I had a BIG job convincing him was a scam.

There's another one doing the rounds that reportedly comes from ebay / Paypal saying that you have paid a few 100 pounds for an item, you naturally click on the link to look at the item and you are automatically asked to log in to your ebay account, the scammers then have your log in details and hijack your account to sell dodgy goods or if it's from Paypal, they have your log in details and empty your account.

The Mail says the following: What can you do?

Check on the feed back of any buyer and seller. Look at their name. Their feed back will be written next to the seller's name If it is 100pc that means all that person's transactions have been a success.

Send goods only to the seller's address or to one they have confirmed ie on EBay.

Send by recorded delivery. Costs more but the buyer pays and you have proof of delivery.

Keep all records of the transaction for 45 days. After that date the buyer can't complain.
