Feeling Stressed after granddaughter was in hospit

I have been off sick this week from work. I visited doc on Tuesday, and she said that I was really stressed and upset, following my granddaughter's stay in hospital.

She has given me a line for a week, stating Stress induced Asthma.

I really still get upset, when I think about being with Sophie, and having to endure her having a blood sample taken, and a canula? re-inserted. This, in turn, causes my asthma symptoms, to be more pronounced.

Should I feel guilty at not being at work, as I have never had a stress related illness? I feel that I want to go back to work, when I am 100 per cent!

Thanks

Hi Gail

you shouldn't feel guilty for being off with stress. You've been through an upsetting time and you can't just switch upset off.

But don't dwell too much on what she had done. One of my children had to have a canular in his head when he was 5 months old, because they'd run out of veins elsewhere. He needed it in or he would have died. Now if I think about that for too long I get stressed and upset and sad, but do you think he gives it a second thought? No.

Take the time you need, think about nice stuff as well, focus on positive things, help Sophie to get better, and get back on with living this life of yours. Work will wait a little while.

Please Gail, dont feel guilty, a child being ill is the hardest experience to endure, when my son of 18 was 10 he was in hospital for over a month with septic arthritis, canulas, ops everything, it was so stressful, no way could i have worked,

Please give yourself time and all my love to little Sophie,

God Bless,
