Hello ladies, its been sometime since I have been on line, sorry to say I have trouble with my voice the doctor reffered me to the E.T.N. he thought it may be chronic laryingitis so this morning I have an appointment for 13th August luckily at the mobile unit close to home, I am having a camera, not the big one...... its a very thin one done right away. just to find out what it really is, also the heat has been very bad for me thank goodness its cooler now. hope you are all o.k.

Love to everyone Jean xx <3 <3 <3

Hi Jean, sorry you have a problem with your voice. I hope the camera shows that it is nothing to worry about. I wonder if it is something to do with the constant heat as we are not used to it. T has a problem with one leg, most of the time the calf muscle aches but every so often he gets bad stabbing pains in it. He has a GP appointment for tomorrow afternoon. (He phoned Monday morning but didn't take my advice to phone early and it was gone 9 when he phoned, otherwise he'd have had an earlier appointment.) I can't think what it can be but will be glad when he finds out as a lot of the time he is like the proverbial bear with sore head!!! :-D

Hi Mo, and everyone

Mo .... glad you enjoyed the BBQ

Jean ...... hope that they find out the problem with your voice, and that it is easy to cure

Ann .................. I know what T is going through! I've had those aching pains for weeks, all connected up with the knee problem.

Sallie .... I hope all is well with you

Our hot weather has returned ............. it is about 30C in the shade in my back garden, and in the low 30s in the house.

Remember Nat King Cole ....................... "The lazy hazy days of summer"

Mo in Kent Report 29 Jul 2014 19:33

Oh my goodness, I am sorry to hear that our Jean, and Ann's T, are having problems.
This weather does seem to make things worse for us all. I always was taught, that the sunshine was good for us, but we have never in the the last few years, had the chance to adjust to it, and now it just knocks us all for six.
I do hope that T gets a good result from the doctors tomorrow Ann.

Oooh Jean, you are much braver than I would be, just the thought of having the camera down my throat, makes me quiver. I hope and pray it's something they can sort out on the day it's done my love.
On the lighter side, I bet J has had the flags out, as it's been so quiet in your house...Naughty Naughty me, you know that I am only joking Jean don't you honey.

I had an appointment today, at the hospital, re these things on my nose, and cheek. My G.P is not sure wether it's age spots, or something nasty.
The woman I saw today, took photo's of my nose...(with a wide angle lens lol ) and the one on my cheek, and she also took a deeper photographs, that goes beneath the layers of the skin, to see if anything nasty is there.
I now have to wait for the specialist to take a look, and if he wants to see me, they will contact me, for him to either see them for himself, or for biopsy's to be done.
Oh my word, why is life never easy.

Our new baby Ava, had to be taken to see the emergency doctor today, she had a temperature of 38, and had not taken a feed since eleven p.m at night. She was boiling over, and crying her little heart out.
Her Mummy and Daddy were told to give her calpol, to bring the temperature down, and place her near a fan to cool her down. They also suggested they trickle an ice cube into her mouth, to ensure she didn't dehydrate.
My oh my, how things change, we were told to give the little ones tepid baths, and strip them down to cool them off, not give them ice cubes. Then I suppose, this is what they call progress these days.

Sallie, I hope you and Alun are doing well. It's nice to hear from you, even though you feel that nothing much is happening.
All my news seems to be about illness and hospitals, it must bore you all to tears.

Has anyone heard from Huia lately ? I have not seen her posting recently. I do hope she is o.k.

Joyce has not been on our thread for a while, but she has been on Face Book, so I know she is around.

Sending love and best wishes to Sylvia, and Marie.

Take care everyone, stay as cool as you can. Love Mo xxx

Huia Report 29 Jul 2014 22:18

Hi Mo and everybody else. I am still looking in each day, but I am pretty busy as I go to Christchurch on Friday for a conference (I am a candidate in the coming elections) and will return on Monday. I bought a lovely top and matching cardigan which I want to take, but the sleeves come down to my fingertips so I am hoping to turn them up today. Yesterday morning I got a phone call from Phil's home to say he has another chest infection and is on antibiotics again. I immediately thought if he should die while I am away I have nothing definite in place so I made a quick visit to him as I hadn't visited last week, and then went to the funeral director and told him what I wanted if he did die over the weekend (he probably wont though), so at least everything is in place now. They say they will hold the body there until I get back, if he does. Not that it would bother me unduly if they went straight ahead with the cremation, but maybe they want their money up front!

Must get on now with my sewing and sorting and packing. Today is Wednesday and I leave here on Friday morning, so only 2 days to get everything done. I have asked the postie to hold my mail on Friday and Saturday.

Hi girls, I missed you all posting yesterday, it's nice to hear from you all.

Jean, sorry that you are having problems with your voice, I hope that the camera will show that it is nothing to worry about.

Like you, I am glad that it is a bit cooler now, hot weather and I don't get on at all, never have.lol!!

Hope J, D and the rest of the are getting along okay.

Ann, hope all will go well for T at the doctors this afternoon and that it isn't anything too much to worry about and that he has something to help with the pain.

Sylvia, thanks for asking, both Alun and I are not too bad at the moment.

Alun went out to breakfast yesterday with three of the men he worked with, they thought that he looked well and they were pleased to know that he is enjoying his retirement. It's an all men's club so I wasn't invited.LOL

Hope that things are better for both of you now, as you have had a lot of stress and family worries for a long while.

Mo, I hope that Ava's temperature is down and that she is better than she was. Bless her!
Gosh, how times have changed, we wouldn't have even thought about giving ours ice cubes, but as you say , I suppose that's progress......still it makes me wonder sometimes, if it is.LOL

I hope that the spots on your face is nothing to worry about, but it's best to be sure. Do you know how long you will have to wait to get the results? But I suppose if they are anything to worry about, the hospital will get in touch almost straight away.

Joyce is okay, I have heard from her a couple of times lately. Her and Jan are coming over to Yorkshire on the 10th August, so I might see her then.

Huia, hope you are all packed up and ready for your weekend at Christchurch
and that it all goes well for you. Good Luck.

Hope that the antibiotics have started to work for Phil and that at least nothing will happen while you are away.

Marie, hope you are and your family are okay, it's a little while since we heard from you.

Well must go now and sort out what we are having for dinner.

Will speak to you all again soon.

Love and best wishes.

Well as we expected doctor (she was not our normal one as he is on holiday) couldn't find anything wrong. Well how could she, the pain is inside his leg, no outward signs of swelling or redness and it comes and goes. All she could do is send him for a fasting blood test and urine test tomorrow. Sending him to the walk in clinic at the hospital which is a pain, instead of doing it at the surgery, because she can get the result back more quickly. She is going to phone on Monday with the result. She did make him stand and go up on his toes (which didn't hurt him) and she compared his legs, I suppose to check if one was a different shape. Afterwards it did occur to me that, as it must be two years since he last had it done, she should have checked his BP. She also said Nurofen were a good thing to take. This morning he couldn't put his foot on the floor but it eased during the day. So we know where we will be spending our morning. (if we can find somewhere to park the car.)

Sallie Report 30 Jul 2014 23:46

Ann, sorry that the doctor wasn't too much help today, let's hope that T's blood test results will show up whatever the problem is and that they can give him something to help the pain.
Also hope that you can park the car at the walk in centre and that you won't have to hang around there too long.

Mo, I mean't to have said on my earlier post this evening, that it's lovely to read your news and that it is not at all boring.

Tomorrow we are going down to S Wales just for the day, we are meeting up with some of the family, so looking forward to it.

Will chat to you all again soon.

Hi Mo, and everyone

Ann ....... sorry to hear that the doctor couldn't see what was wrong with T's leg ............... he isn't on high cholesterol pills is he? Some of those can cause muscle weakness and pain :-(

I had a strange experience earlier tonight ..........................

I was on another site with a few friends, and we were talking about the typical English semi with it's 3 bedrooms and 2 Reception rooms, etc, and whether it was a small or large house .............................

My brother used to live in one, he bought it in 1958 or so, as a new build on a brand new private estate near Belle Vue in Manchester

He died in September 1990, and my sister-in-law sold the house very shortly after.

I have to admit that I had forgotten the number of the house after almost 25 years, although not the street.

I googled the street, found a site that had houses for sale in that area, and zoomed in on one, then used the link on the other site to show my friends what I was talking about ......................

and 2 hours later realised that, yes, that was indeed my brother's old house :-0

There were some major changes inside ........... most notably knocking out the wall between the 2 downstairs "reception rooms", and gas central heating installed, but otherwise it was little changed.

My sis-i-l sold it in early 1993 for about £35,000 or £36,000 because it needed a lot of work done ........... it had sold in 2000 for £48,000

I don't think the buyers had made much profit after doing the necessary maintenance and upgrading!

But what a weird experience looking round that house after so long!

BTW ................. Google street view showed the garden was as bad as when my brother lived there :-)

Mo in Kent Report 31 Jul 2014 21:42

Sylvia, I tried googling the road all my family lived in at one time, only to find it had been demolished, and new houses had been built, and was nothing like I remembered. LOL
You were so lucky in your search Sylvia, and I bet the price of the house has now risen considerately from the £48,000 it sold for back in 2000.
When we bought our house, we paid £48,000 back in 1989, and it's now worth at least £160,000, and thats with the drop in the housing market..

Ann, it doesn't surprise me that the doctor couldn't find out the cause of T's painful leg. It's about the norm these days unfortunately.
What a pain having to go to the drop in centre for the blood test. I don't know if the same is happening in your area, but our local hospital has stopped doing blood tests whereas they had done them for donkeys years.
We now have to go to our medical centres, but we do have a choice of three close to us.
When I was at the hospital the other day, I couldn't believe how many people were waiting to be seen at the Medoc drop in centre, thats the emergency doctors, instead of going to their own G.P's. I suppose they couldn't get an appointment at their own practices. But I thought services like Medoc, were for emergencies only.

Good luck Huia, in your quest for candidacy. I seem to remember your trying for it last year my love, I hope you have more success this year.
I hope you managed to shorten the sleeves of your garments, but I bet they look very elegant on you.
I am sorry to hear that Phil is unwell again. Poor chap seems to be going through so much recently, but then, he isn't as active as he was a few years ago, and will be prone to anything thats going around.

Sallie, I hope you and Alun have had a lovely time in Wales.

I will say goodnight god bless you all. Love Mo xxx

AnninGlos Report 31 Jul 2014 22:14

Mo, the walk in clinic is part of our local hospital. In the end he decided that it was as easy to walk (with a stick) as from the bus to hospital is no further than from the car park. He took it very slowly and stopped for rests. Got it done anyway. Didn't have to wait long at all because he had been sent by a doctor.

Huia sorry to hear that Phil is ill, hope the antibiotics are making him comfortable. Hope you have a good trip.

Oh good news Ann. Thank goodness you didn't have to hang around for to long.

Today has been another scorcher, but Roly had a phone call from a friend in Bury, and it was tipping it down with rain there...oh I wish it was us.

I have had to cut our Honeysuckle bush right back today. The poor thing has turned very woody, and I am just hoping and praying it will survive till next year.
It was in the garden, when we moved here all those years ago, and the area of the garden it's in, looks so sparse now.
It looks like I shall have to replace the Lavender next year as well. That has also been in it's pot for at least six years, but I think it's had it's day now.
Oh well, it looks like I shall be a busy girl next year, replacing plants that this years weather has killed off.

Have a lovely weekend girls, whatever you have planned. Hugs Mo xxx

AnninGlos Report 1 Aug 2014 17:11

Lavender should survive the heat Mo but 6 years is good for one in a pot.
It has been raining here for about a half hour so the garden should be refreshed. guess who had the hose out this morning watering the pots and hanging baskets and beans? :-S

Mo in Kent Report 1 Aug 2014 19:10

LOL Ann, thats typical, especially if you wash the windows or the car, it's guaranteed to rain as well.

Sallie Report 1 Aug 2014 22:16

Just a quick look in to see if you are all okay.

We had a lovely day in Wales yesterday, it was nice to have a family get together, so we could all catch up with each others news. Went to visit my cousin in the home she is in, her daughter was visiting her too, so we then all went to meet the rest of the family for a meal out. It all went well and my cousin seemed to have coped very well with us all there. Both her daughter and myself thought that she might get a bit agitated with so many people around her, but she was okay.

It rained nearly all the time we were down there, it was dry and quite nice to start with, but then it started to rain at lunch time and didn't stop very much until we left.
Apparently it had been a hot and sunny here all day, Michael came to look after the dog, and while he was here he cut the lawns, and watered the garden and all the pots for us. Of course we had heavy rain last night, so the garden and the pots have had a good soaking.

Mo, hope that Ava is a lot better now and hope that Lilly is okay too.
Also hope that you and Roly are okay too.

Ann, hope that T is in less pain than he has been and that the doctors will soon get things sorted for him.

Sylvia, that was a coincidence actually zooming in on your brother's old house, it must have brought back a few memories to you.

Hope that you and OH are both okay.

Jean, hope that your voice is not as bad as it has been. Let's hope that whatever it is it will get sorted very soon.
Hope that J, D and the rest of your family are fine.

Huia, hope that all is going well in Christchurch for you and that you are enjoying being there.

Marie, hope that all is well with you and your family.

Hope you will all have a lovely weekend.

Take care everyone.

Love, Sallie. xxx

Hi Mo, and everyone

Yes, quite a surprise when I realised it was my brother's actual house, not just "one on the right street" :-)

I can't see more than the Google street view of the house where I was born nor my grandparents' house across the street ................ I'd love to see how either one of the houses has been altered inside! The one where I was born and lived in until 1951 did not have an indoor toilet (let alone bath) when we left it!

I had computer trouble this morning ............. the screen would not light up.

On the off chance that it was the monitor that was in trouble .......... we took it down to Mr Go Go Geek, our computer whiz

................... now I have a new monitor!

It is taking some getting used to ..................... it is a 22" rectangular screen, whereas I've always had square screens in the past.

Everything is stretched out ........... looking at photos of people is rather like being in the fairground Hall of Mirrors :-D

We still have our hot weather ............ but it has clouded over this afternoon, so it is now hot and muggy :-(

take care everyone

Hello girls,

We went to Derby this morning, Alun needed to get his hair cut, I was going to leave mine for another couple of weeks, but with it being early it was fairly quiet and Lisa, who always cuts my hair for me was finishing some one else's so thought I might as well get it done then.

It was raining here this morning but started to brighten up this afternoon and now it is a lovely bright sunny evening, still warm but cooler that it has been, thank goodness.

Ann, sorry to hear that T is still in a lot of pain, I bet Monday can't come soon enough for him when hopefully the doctor will know what the problem is and can give him some medication that will soon sort out the problem.

Sylvia, pleased that you have managed to get a new monitor, although it is a rectangular screen when you are use to square ones. I'm sure that it won't take you too long to get use to it.

I haven't got any news really, but thought it would be nice to look in.

Hope everyone else is okay.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Mo in Kent Report 3 Aug 2014 19:22

Helloooo everyone.
It's little old me, just popping in to see how you all are.
Nothing exciting has been happening here, just another day as per norm.
Not seen any of the family, they are all busy doing their own things I dare say.

I forgot to tell you the story of Roly, and his new glasses. When he had his eyes tested, he was told he needed both reading and distance glasses changing, as his sight has deteriarated since his stroke.
So Friday we had to go and pick them up....wrong.... when he tried them on, they were worse than his old ones.
They checked the prescription, and yes the correct lenses had been put in.
So Roly was told he had to let his eyes become acclimatised to them, oh no, that was not going to happen.
If he couldn't see with them before he took them home, how on earth was he going to be able to read, and drive home.
So back we go tomorrow, to get his eyes re-tested, we cannot understand how his sight could get worse in a matter of 10 days. We think the optician must have written the wrong reading down, and why pay for something that is going to be no use at all.
So wait and see what happens tomorrow, if you see a big cloud of dust coming from the Kent area, you will know Roly has lost his cool with them. LOL

Bye for now girls, hugs Mo xxx
