(insert whatever expletives you can think of)

Tests are showing that our friend has pancreatic cancer. She will have a biopsy in a couple of weeks that will determine if that is so, and the stage. But the doctors are talking months rather than weeks. She does not want us to tell our daughter just yet.

Last night (Sunday), I booked OH and myself in to the hotel on the Island where we usually stay for 4 days over Christmas, and she will join us there, and also join us for the Christmas Buffet. I'll reserve the table for that tomorrow (Wednesday).

It will be rather a bitter-sweet time.

Sylvia, I am saddened to read of your friends illness, I pray that she is strong enough to enjoy your christmas buffet.
This is the second day of my trying to post, so I am hoping and praying that it goes through o.k.
Take care dear friends, hugs to you all, Mo xxx

Sylvia, so sorry to hear about your friends diagnosis, horrible disease. i hope she is able to enjoy her Christmas with you. it will, as you say, bitter sweet for all of you, but lovely to be able to share that time with her.

Our Christmas too will be with mixed feelings as we celebrate the first one withough Jon, and remember him on the 27th, the anniversary of the day hedied last year.

yet another trip to B&Q today. This time for mirror, grab rail, bathroom bin, small towel ring for hand towel, otherwise OH will swamp the bathroom when he washes his hands as the main towel rail is a few steps from the sink (or will be when the electrician fits it!). Also bought a new kitchen bin. I am not sure if that is 3 or four visits this week plus one visit to the tile place to collect tiles, and another visit because Alan forgot to tell us to get spacers, we thought he had those, and joy of joys we will be back there next week, I knew we had too many tiles. And we have also made a visit to a carpet warehouse to get cushion flooring for the bathroom. Hopefully only another week to go. not funny climbing downstairs for the loo at night.

It is fun trying to cross the landing numerous times, as all the bathroom tools, cutting machine, vacuum cleaner etc are spread over the landing, quite an agility test.

Also today went to the hairdresser to have my hair washed and blow dried. Cloakroom sink doesn't quite do it!!

All very well having the bathroom costed and we knew about having to buy tiles, but then, of course if the bathroom suite is new you really want all new other stuff don't you, every time we go to B&Q we spend about £50. good job that seems to activate them sending OH a voucher for £5 off £50. (or is that a chicken and egg situation? Anyway, I do think that, aside from maybe a new bath mat set, we have bought it all. %3A-D %3A-D time will tell.

Mo in Kent Report 4 Dec 2015 16:41

Oh goodness me Ann, do take care crossing the landing with all those tools etc laying around. you don't want to go flying down the stairs in the dark. Never mind love, it will soon be finished.
The 27th of December is an awful date for us as well, we lost mother in law on that date.
For a few years Roly thought she passed on boxing day, he was in such a state, but on production of her death certificate, clarified that I had been right all along. M.I.L loved christmas, and would hate for us to be down at heart at this time of year.
We lost my mum on December the 12th, so as you can imagine, December is not exactly my favourite month, but we have been blessed with two grandchildren born in this month also, so we keep our chins up.

Well girls, the tree is up, but the lights will not be lit just yet. We are expecting a couple of the grandchildren to pop in over the weekend, so we have decortaed the tree for them, more so than ourselves.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, take care, Mo xxx

It is ok Mo when he packs up for the day he tidies everything away off the landing, takes up his protective runners from the carpet and hoovers up all the mess. Lovely man!

Ann, you have chosen a diamond to do your bathroom, clearing up after themselves is quite a rarity with tradesmen here in Kent.
Thank you for your card received in this mornings post.

Jean, it's been ages since we heard from Sallie. I believe she was due to see someone, the last time we spoke to her.
Like you, I do hope she is progressing well, we do miss her input don't we, she has been a part of our G.R Family for quite sometime now.

Cor blimey, we went shopping today, and nearly got blown away. Yesterday we decided to leave shopping till today as it was wet and horrible out, good grief I wish now we had gone then now.
The wind fairly took our breathe away, and now it's getting dark, and is overcast, oh lord winter has arrived.
At the moment we are watching some silly christmas movies on the t.v, trying to get into the spirit, but it's failing miserably...boo hoo LOL

Well my lovelies, I will say cheers for now me dears, love Mo xxx

SylviaInCanada Report 5 Dec 2015 21:43

we're under another rain and wind warning ............. and this one is likely to last at least until Wednesday as there seem to be 4 storms on after the other coming at us from the Pacific.

Ann .......... having done 2 bathrooms some years ago, I can assure you that you have probably not done visiting B&Q!!!

We discovered we needed new soap dishes .......... one new vanity had a place to put the soap, but it turned out not to be very practical. The other didn't have any place, which we hadn't noticed before.

We then needed new toothbrush holders and beakers 'cos the ones we'd had looked so old

The toilet roll holder in one bathroom wouldn't attach to the wall where we expected, and still be in easy reach. So, had to visit Home Depot to find a free standing one.

Then we decided that new towels were in order :-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 5 Dec 2015 21:49

Ooh I haven't got to towels yet Sylvia and still undecided what to do about tooth brushes.

Just heard from Jennie Sallies daughter, sorry to hear Sallie is stlll unwell, its not good time for her at the moment, she is facing a big struggle and we need to continue with all our thoughts and prayers for her and the family, it is heartbreaking to hear she is having such a struggle, also Alun has heard about his op but waiting for a definate date, so that doesnt help our Sallie worrying about him just adds to her ongoing troubles. she does have to see various doctors who will be able to help her, our thoughts and our prayers go out to Alun, Jennie and the family and especially to our lovely friend , keep fighting Sallie you can and will beat it all,

much love and special hugs , Jeanxxxx <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

other news from here .................

we're back in the rain and wind :-(

Our friend is not doing well ......... she is now on morphine for the pain, and is in Emergency for the weekend as the doctor thinks she is dehydrated, so they are trying to re-hydrate her.

Between ourselves ............. I think she will be in palliative care soon. Things are progressing that fast.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 Dec 2015 20:59

Oh Sylvia, how sad for your friend and for you. I hope they can control the pain. Especially sad this time of year, I feel for her family and friends as this is where we were last year with our son in law <3

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 12 Dec 2015 22:46

Thank you, Ann xx

She has no family up here ............ she married for the first time at the age of 50, he was 49 and a first marriage for him as well. So no children. Her brother is 2 years older, lives in the US and is in very poor health ........ actually she went down to stay with him back in September to allow her sis-i-l to go away 'cos he has to have someone around. Then this all blew up after she got back.

so the support is all from friends, some long time like us and some much more recent.

I've just heard that she has had the nurses and visitors all laughing with her quips and jokes ........... so maybe the re-hydration will help. Palliative care may translate to her being at home with private full time care.
