Mo in Kent Report 26 Dec 2016 14:36

Oh Sallie, how wonderful to hear from you love. And many congratulations, on your future arrival, a lovely new baby, what great news.Do they know what they are having yet, or do they want a surprise arrival.
Years ago, we never knew what we were having, till the little one arrived, so I am not sure what way I preferred it. I suppose knowing what you are due to have, allows parents to buy suitable clothing, but then we chose a lot of white or lemon coloured clothes, didn't we.

I do hope you all enjoyed a pleasant day yesterday, but if truth be known, I am glad it's over, and we can now concentrate on getting ourselves better.
Take care all, hugs Mo

Mo I feel like you really, I feel I couldn't pay justice to the celebrations so it was a good job it was only the two of us. Today I have just sat around reading and watching TV even watched seven brides for seven brothers this morning. Just can't stop coughing. And, being a ladu of a cerain age, that does have consequences, even with my legs crossed!

Sallie so lovely to see you. Have you thought of getting your lap top looked at? Or maybe getting a new one :-D congratulations on the expected Grandchild, how lovely. Thank you for your card, so sad not to see one of your lovely creations though, hope you get the urge to creat back one day.

Jean, come on, did you get the laptop?

Oh good lord Ann, it sounds like you have got this lurgy thing that we have. The cough is horrendous, and the headaches...well awful.
We have been taking paracetamol every four hours, and when it's starting to wear off, we certainly know about it.
I had not been out of the house since last Wednesday/Thursday, and as the sun was shining today, we decided to pop out for a quick coffee up town, but crumbs, was it cold out. When we got back, we put the heating up a notch or two, to warm ourselves up a bit.

Lets hope our esteemed leader Jean will be back soon, perhaps she is waiting for D to set things up for her.
Well from a very cold Kent, I will say good night god bless.

OK just about to slide off page 4.

Anyway, that is Christmas finished. I have been a busy bee today.

All decs, tree etc taken down and packed away. Only the tree in the loft now, a home found for everything else down here to make it easier for OH. All dusted and hoovered and polished so all clean again. Those decs don't have create dust. Not sure if I have found everything I put away before Christmas yet. Can't think what but I bet something is missing.

I thought I would get on and do it this morning while OH was at golf, gosh that was a lot of trips up and down the stairs. Then when he came home and after he'd had his lunch he hoovered the floors and I dusted and polished. So that is it for this week
:-D :-D :-D Still coughing bit not as bad as it was and beginning to feel a bit more human.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 5 Jan 2017 04:56

Hi all,

I think I had better start trying to post on this thread, I seem to be losing touch with everyone and that's a shame. I hope you will all have a good year ahead and all the coughs and colds will soon go. On NYEve, I should have been out with friends over from Germany but couldn't speak without coughing. I caught mine from o.h. who brought it home soon after Christmas. He is not doing very well at all considering he is much younger than me! He will be 63 in February, I have my 70th coming up in summer. He is careless with his diabetes problem so often gets disorientated and confused, stumbling as if he is drunk. The secret strong ciders don't help! He had an accident years ago badly damaging one knee so the smashed up kneecap was removed, that's put pressure on the other knee and his ankle, which is also made worse by his weight gain. Since his cycle accident in 2013 he's not biked at all and can't walk briskly, so has piled weight on. His grandfather had Parkinson's so I wonder if that's involved, but altho I went with him to the doc recently and explained his problems she just gave him a number to call for physio, but he won't phone. His memory is dreadful, but he won't go for the memory test doc suggested, and I get fed up with repeating answers to questions and telling him what we've done that day and yes, we have had dinner He is still working but struggling, and has to have time off soon to have a cataract dealt with. He can't drive in the dark so I have to do it.

His dad is 85 now, it's just over a year since his stroke, he's finally in a carehome nearby. He wouldn't do the physio needed so will never walk or stand again, and only has use of one arm. There have been so many arguments with o.h. and his sisters against their stepmother that they are banned from going to the house by the police!
Nightmare!

My son and his fiancee were lucky enough to get a move in September, to a nice two bed flat (upstairs) with garden space and very close to a lovely park. I am still waiting to get news of children, wish they would get a move-on. N's son will be 9 this year, and my son will be 35.

I am so pleased to hear your news Sallie, you must be so excited. Hope all goes well.

Better call o.h. up for work, he's on earlies so I go to bed when he's gone.

Take care everyone, stay warm and safe, apparently we are due some really wintry weather soon for a month! Maybe I will just hibernate lol

Love to all
Lizxxx

Details of Huia's memorial service are on 'her' thread, still finding it hard to realise we won't see anymore of her lovely pics on fb and hear of her busy life. I know she was considering moving and not looking forward to sorting out her things, hope her family will enjoy finding the photographs and info and will find a way to hold on to their past.I do miss her.

AnninGlos Report 5 Jan 2017 10:13

Hi Liz, nice to have somebody else post on here, the thread has got very static. Hopefully it will liven up again soon as Jean had her new laptop for Christmas and is just waiting to be instructed by her daughter on how to use it, the other one she has seems to have a lot of problems. I have contacted her by e mail and she and J are ok, Jean making lots of cards to be sold apparently.

Liz, it is a pity your OH's doctor wasn't more helpful when you went with him. surely she could have managed to book him in for tests, then maybe he would have gone. I wonder if he is scared of facing up to what might be wrong with him. It is certainly most likely his diabetes that is not helping, plus if his knee is hurting and his ankle. I assume that, besides drinking cider, which probably momentarily makes him feel better, he is not eating the right foods, or rather is eating the wrong foods. Does he go to diabetic clinic for check ups. I expect he is scares of having his cataracts done as well but people who have them done say it is not too bad and marvellous when they can see so much better. Actually Liz, it is probably best if he doesn't cycle if he can't see clearly.

It does seem as if it is all putting pressure on you to do everything for him. Does he still drive during the day? Such a worry for you isn't it? Not helped by his sisters by all accounts. Do you get on with his stepmother? If so I assume you can see where the faults lie there.

It sounds as if your OH takes after his father, if his father refised to do any exercises after his stroke. The sad thing is that your OH is heading for a stroke himself if he doesn't take his diet under control.

Art least you've had some good news, good that your son has a new flat, maybe thatw as what was stopping them having a baby, maybe hope for good news in 2017.

Yes, we all miss Huia on here, she was very much part of our thread. Such a lovely lively warm person and a shock to lose her.

come back again soon Liz. :-) :-)

AnninGlos Report 6 Jan 2017 13:24

that was scary this morning OH was in the bathroom shaving when there was a terrific bang and the outside layer of the double glazed top window exploded outwards. We were getting ready to go up to Webbs garden centre at Wychebold so that was our day out scuppered. Trying to get a glazier to reply on their answer phones. Must have been the frost caused it, luckily the glass went outwards, well it would as the inside layer is still intact.

We have two phone calls out since 10am this morning, neither have replied as yet. Tradesmen really get on my nerves lately there seems to be no thought that you are anxiously waiting for a call.

Hello Ann and Liz, it's so good to hear from you both.
I see that our esteemed leader Jean is still A.W.O.L, bless her heart, I do hope all is well with them both.
I wonder if Sallie is busy with her new grandchild on the way. I wonder if she has got her hands full with knitting needles, busy preparing for the new little one..

Well what an awful Christmas and New Year we have had, I am just glad it's over and done with.
It's amazing how feeling so under the weather can put a downer on things.

Liz, do you know if there is going to be a meet at Victoria this year again ? I love going to them, but can't manage to go to the far north meets. Mind you, you had a long journey down to the Victoria meet didn't you.

Ann, I do hope you managed to get the window sorted. How strange that it should have happened as it did, and T was very lucky it went out and not inside where he was.
It has been very very frosty here for days now. I have put a bag of salt by the shed door, because I didn't realise the wooden steps had frozen, and nearly skidded of them. Ooops I didn't need to start the New Year in plaster, as well as having the flaming virus.

Our friends on this thread have dwindled drastically, with losing our Huia, and Marie and Sylvia being missing, it's a sad tittle thread.
Take care dear friends, speak to you soon.xxx

:-D :-D :-D Jean, good to see you, making up for lost time as well and giving us a double posting! Are you pleased with your new laptop? Always hard to get used to new technological things though.

I was thinking of you just now as I was making some cards for charity. I have made 11 cards altogether today, a couple for me and the rest for a friend who sells them for several charities. Of those 11 cards, seven of them are using the toppers of Art Deco ladies that you sent me. They make very pretty cards.

Glad your cards are selling well. Nice to have a hobby that you can do when you can't walk far. Maybe when the better weather comes you will be able to venture out a few steps to see if there are any bulbs growing.

Anyway, good to see you on here.

Sylvia welcome back, although I have chatted to you on the Welsh thread (I think it was.)

Mo in Kent Report 7 Jan 2017 19:39

Oooh welcome back Jean and Sylvia, it's been such a long time since we heard from you both. Sylvia, you are excused, coz you were visiting family, but naughty naughty Jean, come on, what's your excuse, we know what an expert you are with these new fangled puters LOL
I am back on my old one, as the one my family bought me for my birthday is very touch sensitive, and as you know Jean, us dart players can be very heavy handed, and goodness knows what I was doing wrong, but I kept mucking things up, typical old me LOL so back to my old faithful.

Our old neighbours moved out yesterday, and we were looking out for the new ones, and nobody arrived.
After shopping today, a strange car turned up on the neighbours drive, and the new owner introduced himself.
He and his wife had bought it as a pension plan for their older age, and intended for their son and child to move in at a peppercorn rent, but the son doesn't wsnt to move in, so now they are going to rent the house out.
Lord save us from nightmare neighbours, it would be just our luck to get the neighbour from hell.

Stay safe and warm Sylvia.

Well enough of my moaning and groaning, night night one and all. Hugs Mo xxx

I'm slowly visiting "my" threads .............. have only a little time on the 'puter as we try to get sorted out.

It has depended on which one was nearest the top of My Threads as to who got the first message!!!

A little more information for you ..................

We got back mid-afternoon on Wednesday ....... about 5 hours late due to a slow freight train that we had to follow all the way from about Edmonton (around lunch time on Tuesday), and a frozen switch on the track about 10 minutes outside the station here!

That's about how the trip went ..................... it was great fun, and we enjoyed every part of it, BUT there were all these weird "events" almost every day for 3 whole weeks!

I even got stuck in the wheelchair on the stair lift in Montreal train station :-D

Someone had moved a post from one side of the landing to in the path of the lift. 5 or 6 French-Canadian men (some handsome :-D ) use brute force and a crowbar to hammer the post out of the mechanism. Lift fine, post not so fine :-D

MJ was delighted to see us, and never stopped talking, whether it was to us, his parents or to his toys!

The weather had not warmed up while we were away, and more snow fell on New Year's Eve, so we returned to freezing temperatures, and side streets and sidewalks treacherous with frozen snow and ice patches.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Jan 2017 15:54

Ooh Mo you might get some really nice neighbours. Hopefully the man or his agent will check up on the tenants as they wont want the place wrecked will they. what is touch sensitive on the new laptop, is it the mouse pad? that is what I don't like about laptops, much prefer my desktop.

Sylvia, is the weather in Vancouver worse than where your daughter is?

I am feeling virtuous today I have cleared out the cupboard under the double oven. I am sure we all have one like it, full of baking trays, cake tins, rollof foil, saucepan lids etc etc. I have filled a carrier bag for the dump with rusty baking trays and saucepan lids that I have no saucepan to match!

And then I tackled that other nightmare (well so far partly tackled it). the one that has bills and receipts, bits of paper with phone numbers for tradesmen, home delivery pamphlets, booklets for long gone items, like defunct irons etc. I have filled 4 bags with shredding and have a crate filled with recycling that I can't get in the bin until it is emptied tomorrow after 4 weeks recycling.

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 8 Jan 2017 17:45

Oh Ann, you have been a busy girl. I tackled most of the cupboards and drawers, weeks before Christmas. It would be just my luck that one of the grandchildren opened a door or drawer, and show me up with all the detritus within them. LOL
It's just as well with us both being unwell over the holiday period.
I don't use a mouse for either of my puters, as I find it hopeless where I am concerned, having no control of them.
Even my son has said how the new one is so touch sensitive, so perhaps it's not just slap dash ol me.

Oh Sylvia, it could only happen to you love, couldn't it. Mind you, being surrounded by handsome French/Canadian men was a bonus.
Being on that wonderful train, despite the hold ups, must have been a treat.
How old is MJ now ? He must be around 5/6 by now I should imagine.
Mind you, our Lilly will be six this month, I can't believe how that time has flown by.

Today has been pretty mild here, but by this afternoon, the temperature dropped drastically.
When we got back from the club, I had to put the heating on, to warm us through a bit. The club itself was lovely and warm, but on leaving, cor, we really felt the difference.

Well my lovelies, I shall say cheerio for now, stay safe and warm everyone.

Hello everyone.
Jean, the forecast is for the dreaded snow late tomorrow evening/night. It's been very cold here today, but whether we get the snow is doubtful, it normally warms up before hand, but I shall wait with bated breath tomorrow.
As it is, I am supposed to walk to darts tomorrow night, but if it's heavy outside, I shan't bother going.
I really don't feel like getting snowed in, even though the pub does hot drinks to warm me up, not a drop of alcohol passes my lips at any time believe it or not.
And as you say Jean,I don't want a tumble.

We had a visit today from Lilly and Ava, we have not seen them since before Christmas.
Normally Lilly loves her biscuits, but today, she said she was only allowed one, because she had had a few sweets earlier.
This is not like our Lilly, she loves her biscuits. It appears that her mummy has put her on a diet, lord knows why, but we have to adhere to her wishes, or all hell would be released.
Things are still iffy between our son and DIL.

Well my loves, I shall say goodnight god bless, take care everyone.

Mo ..... so glad that you have been able to see the 2 girls. Marriage breakups are never happy events, but especially so when one party is nasty to the other, and to the grandparents.

It's very cold here, again ............ it did warm up yesterday, to about 4 above freezing!

OH very kindly (NOT!) shared his horrible cough with me ......

.......... he came down with it on Saturday evening, was apparently up and down all that night taking stuff with no regard to time of last dose (I was sleeping in another room). By the time I was aware of him on Sunday morning, he was getting very confused about the time of day, or even what day it was, and kept refusing to drink or eat anything.

Dratted men!

He was better on Monday, and we went out for afternoon coffee with our friend.

I came down with it late on Monday afternoon, hardly slept that night, and had to cancel my Physio appointment on Tuesday morning. I was not happy about that.:-(

I feel a bit better now .......... at least, I am not coughing constantly ............. although this is my first time up today

and .............. I am making sure I eat and drink
