Mo in Kent Report 6 Jan 2017 18:47

Hello Ann and Liz, it's so good to hear from you both.
I see that our esteemed leader Jean is still A.W.O.L, bless her heart, I do hope all is well with them both.
I wonder if Sallie is busy with her new grandchild on the way. I wonder if she has got her hands full with knitting needles, busy preparing for the new little one..

Well what an awful Christmas and New Year we have had, I am just glad it's over and done with.
It's amazing how feeling so under the weather can put a downer on things.

Liz, do you know if there is going to be a meet at Victoria this year again ? I love going to them, but can't manage to go to the far north meets. Mind you, you had a long journey down to the Victoria meet didn't you.

Ann, I do hope you managed to get the window sorted. How strange that it should have happened as it did, and T was very lucky it went out and not inside where he was.
It has been very very frosty here for days now. I have put a bag of salt by the shed door, because I didn't realise the wooden steps had frozen, and nearly skidded of them. Ooops I didn't need to start the New Year in plaster, as well as having the flaming virus.

Our friends on this thread have dwindled drastically, with losing our Huia, and Marie and Sylvia being missing, it's a sad tittle thread.
Take care dear friends, speak to you soon.xxx

that was scary this morning OH was in the bathroom shaving when there was a terrific bang and the outside layer of the double glazed top window exploded outwards. We were getting ready to go up to Webbs garden centre at Wychebold so that was our day out scuppered. Trying to get a glazier to reply on their answer phones. Must have been the frost caused it, luckily the glass went outwards, well it would as the inside layer is still intact.

We have two phone calls out since 10am this morning, neither have replied as yet. Tradesmen really get on my nerves lately there seems to be no thought that you are anxiously waiting for a call.

Hi Liz, nice to have somebody else post on here, the thread has got very static. Hopefully it will liven up again soon as Jean had her new laptop for Christmas and is just waiting to be instructed by her daughter on how to use it, the other one she has seems to have a lot of problems. I have contacted her by e mail and she and J are ok, Jean making lots of cards to be sold apparently.

Liz, it is a pity your OH's doctor wasn't more helpful when you went with him. surely she could have managed to book him in for tests, then maybe he would have gone. I wonder if he is scared of facing up to what might be wrong with him. It is certainly most likely his diabetes that is not helping, plus if his knee is hurting and his ankle. I assume that, besides drinking cider, which probably momentarily makes him feel better, he is not eating the right foods, or rather is eating the wrong foods. Does he go to diabetic clinic for check ups. I expect he is scares of having his cataracts done as well but people who have them done say it is not too bad and marvellous when they can see so much better. Actually Liz, it is probably best if he doesn't cycle if he can't see clearly.

It does seem as if it is all putting pressure on you to do everything for him. Does he still drive during the day? Such a worry for you isn't it? Not helped by his sisters by all accounts. Do you get on with his stepmother? If so I assume you can see where the faults lie there.

It sounds as if your OH takes after his father, if his father refised to do any exercises after his stroke. The sad thing is that your OH is heading for a stroke himself if he doesn't take his diet under control.

Art least you've had some good news, good that your son has a new flat, maybe thatw as what was stopping them having a baby, maybe hope for good news in 2017.

Yes, we all miss Huia on here, she was very much part of our thread. Such a lovely lively warm person and a shock to lose her.

come back again soon Liz. :-) :-)

Hi all,

I think I had better start trying to post on this thread, I seem to be losing touch with everyone and that's a shame. I hope you will all have a good year ahead and all the coughs and colds will soon go. On NYEve, I should have been out with friends over from Germany but couldn't speak without coughing. I caught mine from o.h. who brought it home soon after Christmas. He is not doing very well at all considering he is much younger than me! He will be 63 in February, I have my 70th coming up in summer. He is careless with his diabetes problem so often gets disorientated and confused, stumbling as if he is drunk. The secret strong ciders don't help! He had an accident years ago badly damaging one knee so the smashed up kneecap was removed, that's put pressure on the other knee and his ankle, which is also made worse by his weight gain. Since his cycle accident in 2013 he's not biked at all and can't walk briskly, so has piled weight on. His grandfather had Parkinson's so I wonder if that's involved, but altho I went with him to the doc recently and explained his problems she just gave him a number to call for physio, but he won't phone. His memory is dreadful, but he won't go for the memory test doc suggested, and I get fed up with repeating answers to questions and telling him what we've done that day and yes, we have had dinner He is still working but struggling, and has to have time off soon to have a cataract dealt with. He can't drive in the dark so I have to do it.

His dad is 85 now, it's just over a year since his stroke, he's finally in a carehome nearby. He wouldn't do the physio needed so will never walk or stand again, and only has use of one arm. There have been so many arguments with o.h. and his sisters against their stepmother that they are banned from going to the house by the police!
Nightmare!

My son and his fiancee were lucky enough to get a move in September, to a nice two bed flat (upstairs) with garden space and very close to a lovely park. I am still waiting to get news of children, wish they would get a move-on. N's son will be 9 this year, and my son will be 35.

I am so pleased to hear your news Sallie, you must be so excited. Hope all goes well.

Better call o.h. up for work, he's on earlies so I go to bed when he's gone.

Take care everyone, stay warm and safe, apparently we are due some really wintry weather soon for a month! Maybe I will just hibernate lol

Love to all
Lizxxx

Details of Huia's memorial service are on 'her' thread, still finding it hard to realise we won't see anymore of her lovely pics on fb and hear of her busy life. I know she was considering moving and not looking forward to sorting out her things, hope her family will enjoy finding the photographs and info and will find a way to hold on to their past.I do miss her.

OK just about to slide off page 4.

Anyway, that is Christmas finished. I have been a busy bee today.

All decs, tree etc taken down and packed away. Only the tree in the loft now, a home found for everything else down here to make it easier for OH. All dusted and hoovered and polished so all clean again. Those decs don't have create dust. Not sure if I have found everything I put away before Christmas yet. Can't think what but I bet something is missing.

I thought I would get on and do it this morning while OH was at golf, gosh that was a lot of trips up and down the stairs. Then when he came home and after he'd had his lunch he hoovered the floors and I dusted and polished. So that is it for this week
:-D :-D :-D Still coughing bit not as bad as it was and beginning to feel a bit more human.

Oh good lord Ann, it sounds like you have got this lurgy thing that we have. The cough is horrendous, and the headaches...well awful.
We have been taking paracetamol every four hours, and when it's starting to wear off, we certainly know about it.
I had not been out of the house since last Wednesday/Thursday, and as the sun was shining today, we decided to pop out for a quick coffee up town, but crumbs, was it cold out. When we got back, we put the heating up a notch or two, to warm ourselves up a bit.

Lets hope our esteemed leader Jean will be back soon, perhaps she is waiting for D to set things up for her.
Well from a very cold Kent, I will say good night god bless.

Mo I feel like you really, I feel I couldn't pay justice to the celebrations so it was a good job it was only the two of us. Today I have just sat around reading and watching TV even watched seven brides for seven brothers this morning. Just can't stop coughing. And, being a ladu of a cerain age, that does have consequences, even with my legs crossed!

Sallie so lovely to see you. Have you thought of getting your lap top looked at? Or maybe getting a new one :-D congratulations on the expected Grandchild, how lovely. Thank you for your card, so sad not to see one of your lovely creations though, hope you get the urge to creat back one day.

Jean, come on, did you get the laptop?

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 26 Dec 2016 14:36

Oh Sallie, how wonderful to hear from you love. And many congratulations, on your future arrival, a lovely new baby, what great news.Do they know what they are having yet, or do they want a surprise arrival.
Years ago, we never knew what we were having, till the little one arrived, so I am not sure what way I preferred it. I suppose knowing what you are due to have, allows parents to buy suitable clothing, but then we chose a lot of white or lemon coloured clothes, didn't we.

I do hope you all enjoyed a pleasant day yesterday, but if truth be known, I am glad it's over, and we can now concentrate on getting ourselves better.
Take care all, hugs Mo

Hello girls, just come on here to wish you all a Merry Christmas and was shocked and upset to read that Huia has passed away. Although I don't come on GR very much at all now, I will miss reading Huia's threads and posts.

Like Jean I am having a lot of trouble with my laptop, it keeps cutting out when I am reading and writing posts, so I keep giving up on it......it's so frustrating. lol!!

Thank you all for your lovely Christmas cards, hope you all received mine. I haven't made any cards for a few months now, can't seem to get any inspiration at all. I am doing some knitting at the moment, I have made some little cardigans ready for the arrival of our first grandchild....Christie and Richard are expecting their baby at the beginning of May, so we are all thrilled to bits.

Mo, hope that both you and Roly will soon feel a lot better and that you enjoy your Christmas.

Ann, thank you for thinking about me, I really must try and come on here more often, I will have to use our desktop that is in the dining room, although I'm not keen on using it.
Hope that all is well with you and Tony, and that your cough will soon get a lot better.

Jean, if you are looking in, hope you will get a new laptop for Christmas. Hope that
both you and J are okay and are managing to cope with everyday things.

Well girls hope you all have a peaceful Christmas and enjoy whatever you have planned.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

Jean in you look in I hope you get the laptop you want and can come back and chat to us.

Mo, I know you and Roly have not been well, hope you are feeling better. I am coughing well and a bit sniffly, courtesy of the Gr grandchildren. First cough I have had for 2 years so shouldn't complain. :-D :-D

Hope everyone who looks on this thread has a good Christmas and that 2017 will be a healthy and contented one for you.

AnninGlos Report 20 Dec 2016 15:53

we had a busy morning, we were in Tesco just after 9am, had a coffee and snack, did the Christmas shop and home just after eleven. Hair appointments at 12.30, having taken almost as long to put away the shopping as it did to buy and pack it. Then when we got home from hairdresser we had the dishwasher to empty after having a small group from U3A here yesterday afternoon for the meeting, tea/coffee and mince pies etc.Relax a bit now, Tony doing half an hour in the garden, meal cooking in the slow cooker (mince for shepherds pie), potatoes peeled and waiting to cook.

Yes, a shock about Huia Getting used to shocks, had the first three weeks ago, heard a friend we lived near in Essex who we only had contact with at Christmas, died in September, then there was my 93 year old cousin who died end November, Then our very good friend who we used to go dancing with all the time in Bedfordshire, who had a stroke 18 months ago, seems to be succombing to dementia. One of the downsides of getting older, as your friends and relatives do too. xxx

Anyway, hope everyone who reads this thread is ready for Christmas. Sending love to Jean (and thanks for your card) and Sallie (and thanks for your card too). I think i have thanked you Mo for yours, if not blame the brain, thanks anyway in case. :-) :-) <3 <3

Oh dear lord, we have lost our dear friend Huia, rest in peace Huia, reunited with your beloved husband.

Hearing of people passing at this time of year really hits home doesn't it, it's so sad to hear.

Saying to Sylvia, a very merry christmas to you and your husband, seems wrong after reading this, but just in case we don't hear from you till after the new year Sylvia, my very best wishes go out to you, and your family.

Ann, Jean may not post till she gets her new laptop, so she will be so shocked at the sad news.
I believe it's going to be a Christmas present for her, from her daughter.
It would be lovely to hear from Sallie, but I am assuming that no news is good news.
Like yourself, we did get a card from her a little while ago, but it's nice to catch up her news.

Well girls, I will say goodnight god bless, see you soon. Hugs Mo
