Hi
If someone in the early 1900's was getting married for the 2nd/3rd time, on the Free BMD website would it still have the womens madien name or would it show their marriage name.
Thanks

Julie

She would marry under her Married name, but on the cert it would show her Maiden name

In my experience, it would show whatever name the woman gave the vicar!!
My great grandparents got married after having 9 children together.
On all the birth certificates, my g grandmother was Mrs XXX (surname of g grandfather)- all the children have his surname.
On the wedding certificate, she was a spinster, and he was a bachelor - yet the reason they hadn't married before was because he was already married!! They waited until his first wife died before marrying - so he was in reality a widower.

Even if she used her 1st or 2nd married surname when she married yet again, any children of any of the marriages should show her maiden name on their birth certificate and after 1911 this maiden name would show on the childrens' entries on the GRO birth index.

I think she might have been married before, as I cannot find a marriage between Elsie and Alfred.
Thanks
