Golf Ball maker is all I can find in old newspapers so far. They tended to live near golf links.

EDIT...what is the occupation in other census'?. There is also a confectioner who is also a (sugar) ball maker

and cricket ball maker..living near cricket grounds

brandy ball maker

couldn't it just be as simple as someone who made balls? ie footballs, cricket balls, tennis balls, etc :-)

I have found some ancestors in Newington, Surrey shown in the 1841 and 1851 census returns as "Ball maker". Anyone have any ideas what this means?
