This thread has brought back memories of Slipper, an elegant feline with the hunting instincts a lioness would be proud of.

Thankfully she would despatch her prey as soon as you went near her but if you weren't about she would eat it, well most of it. I still remember opening the back door and finding a sparrows head on the concrete step. It had been decapitated so cleanly it looked as if it had been set in the concrete.

She never taught her hunting skills to her surrogate son, Tiger, though. His only attempt at catching a bird ended in him sitting on it. I never did work out if he was trying to gas it to death. (something I feel Tiger would have been capable of doing with his regular gaseous emissions!)

Ooooh Dakota and Ed - seems like I get off quite lightly!
George doesn't eat his prey. When he brings in birds, (most oftern pigeons) he plucks them on the stairs - but I'm usually warned as the noise wakes me up! Mind you, two huge (feral) pigeons on following days was a bit much!

Mr Miu, his brother DOES eat his prey, but he usually brings in mice (dead) and eats them in the kitchen. There's usually a small amount of blood, the spine & tail and liver left, all in a neat area!

Betty brings in moths - unfortunately these are usually alive, and she 'plays' wit them - but moths aren't too messy. She did bring in a live frog once, but we managed to rescue it!

OOoow errr
My friends cat brought her in half a baby rabbit , + left it at the side of the bed, which was bad enough , but she didn't realise untill she woke up, swung her legs out of the bed, + thought she was putting her feet in her slippers......gross

I also remember him dismembering a mouse in our kitchen one night. I thought we had an intruder - went downstairs ready to 'have a go' and was greeted with the cat flipping a mouse up against the front of the cooker!

Took me hours to scrub the kitchen down - but the cooker was never clean enough for the OH again so we bought a new one in the end. It looked like the Somme in there - I didn't realise there was sooo much packed inside a little mouse!

Fortunately, our current cat is much more sedate - he'll just sit in the garden squeaking at birds on the lawn! I think if he encountered a rat he'd run a mile in the opposite direction!

Nice Ed!! I'm just grateful they're dead!!!
He bought me his first rat on Christmas day 2007.
Like you, I was in bed, but heard him coming, thought there was something odd about his footfall - and his growing at the other cats, and was quick enough to shut the bedroom door as soon as I saw what he had!!!

Maggie,

There's only one thing worse than your cat coming in with a dead animal - your cat coming in with a PART of a dead animal!

A cat I was servant to about 15 years ago once woke me up by sitting on my chest whilst I was in bed with a wood pigeon's WING in his mouth!

YUM YUM.

I'm on here waiting for the bathroom floor to dry.
I was on the phone to a friend - was just about to put the phone down when I heard the cat flap go.
In strolls George witha rat in his mouth!!! I showed him the back door - then he strolls back in again (still with rat) and takes up residence in the bathroom (which is downstairs), growing at anyone who goes near his kill.
Not wanting to discourage him, I left him in peace for a while.
He eventually came out for some food. I 'bagged up' the rat and decided I had to wash the floor - George doesn't eat rats, but there were smears of blood.
Thank goodness for spray cleaners that 'kill 99% of household germs (and ratty bits too I hope). Quick spray, wipe over with mop, and I hope I can have a shower soon!

George went back into the bathroom and was confused. LOL
