I just googled the above sax player from Britain's got talent, as I thought he was very good, only to find he has recorded his sound in the past, with cds out, playing with Dina Carroll and backing many people.
His name was Joolz Gianni, if you look you will see an album cover with his picture on it.

What a let down, and there was me saying how humble he was.

Oh I don't know, Liz.. I see your point, but he did say that he was hoping for "the big break". I've known people say that they were performing in public for the first time, been fantastic, and the audience have loved them - and deservedly so. However, these certain people have been misleading the public, as it hasn't been the first time they'd performed in public. But Julian didn't say that (though I admit, perhaps he was economical with the truth!). :-))

Besides, he'd be aware that if he had misled the judges, he'd be found out sooner or later and not be treated the same!

but the girl who was in X factor had been a backing singer to others...so don't really see why not...and being an artist in your own right not just as backing must surely be what most singers/ musicians aspire to?

no different to those who spend an 'apprenticeship' time working the clubs and then get a 'big break'....as so many have in the past.

Mmm see where you are coming from Liz but also see what Rambling Rose says....look at Lee fingymajig from Joseph he was in other stage shows and Connie Fisher (whos just had a major op on vocal chords), although they were backing etc other shows/stars they were also trying to get the big break on their own accord.......but this also means that those who are ordinary people just singing in the bath or on street corners etc on Britians Got talent, stand less chance of winning......BUT THEY will get noticed if they are good enough!!
Hope that makes sense:o)) lol

Yes, I know others have already been in the business too, and so the balance in the competitions is sometimes unfair, but he has been around for years and has his own cd out already, called Silver I think and I have just seen another cd with him on it, pictured on the front, called Chilled 2 the Sax, on Sony, around 2004. Just seems a bit naughty to have himself listed as a newly found talent as I am sure Simon must have known he had cds out already.
Susan's cd was a bit different, she wasn't making money out of it.

Good Morning Liz

I wonder if he has paid for his own CD though which would be different to having a major record company sponsoring you with all the benefits it brings?

Anybody can cut their own disc if they have the money to do it. I know someone "local" with their own jazz group that has cut their own disc - which I have - if they become "famous" am hoping it will be a little gold mine! LOL

Have to agree with rambling Rose, anyone on a stage as part of a band ,is not appearing in public ,the band are,and the fella did say he was looking for the break as a solo artist.
If you go down those lines you would have to include the scottish lass that was on two weeks ago[Susan Boyd],who bought out a cd for charity in 1999.Fred.

Just saying he has been working as a musician with cds out for a while anyway.

From one site: A very cool sophisticated affair?... then you need Joolz Gianni.

A truly virtuoso saxophonist, Joolz and his band play a mixture of pop covers, classical crossover, and million selling soulful tunes.

Originally known as ‘I Want Your Sax’ Joolz was featured heavily on Sony’s Classic Chill Out albums and has been thrilling audiences with his band all over Europe.

A cd called Chilled to the Sax - Joolz Gianni was released 16.6.2003

His picture and name on the front of the cd, so anyone could have discovered him from there.

Hope he gets another bite at the cherry.
