Does anyone suffer from Crohn's? Feel that you are the only one with this disabilitating annoying and frustrating disease? Research suggests that it could be passed on through genes. Quite funny asking this on this chat.

Hi Elaine
My sister in law has Chrones but no body else in the family has it, she has it so bad she had to have a Cholastomy bag, if it flares up again she has no pipe to pull through no more to attach, hopefully we never have to get to that stage as the doctors do not know what they will do, she has had it since she was 19 and now she is 44

My nephews partner has Crohns. It was diagnosed about 4 years ago, when she was in her late 20's. She has had a lovely daughter since then.
Isn't it more prevalent amongst Jews/people of Jewish ancestry? Her grandfather was a Russian Jew.

Hi Wenders, your SIL isn't a direct relative!!!
My nephew's partner's surname is Welsh sounding - the anglicised version of her grandfather's Jewish name - and not the only Jewish 'Welshman' I know!!!

She thinks she's Welsh - but I've talked to her dad - even his forename is anglicised -and the ancestors never lived in Wales!!

My son suffers from Crohn's Disease:

We are not Jewish (but I'm Welsh!!!), and as far as I am aware no one else in either my or my husband's family suffered from Crohn's (of course it's hard to know exactly as in the past the condition was probably not known as Crohn's)

I remember reading somewhere once, when son was first diagnosed, that having had Measles when a very small child could possibly be a trigger in some individuals. My son did have measles whilst a tiny baby (before he was able to have the jab actually) so I've always attributed his Crohn's to this.

I said it's more prevalent amongst people of Jewish descent - not solely confined to them.
I quote from a genetics website:

Tay-Sachs disease favors Ashkenazim Jews (of European descent), while cystic fibrosis haunts White people. Latin Americans and African rooted people are particularly vulnerable to type 2 diabetes, 90% and 60 % more than White people. Hypertension plagues Afro-Caribbean descent at a higher rate than other populations.

As this thread is called Genes, it could point to a certain ancestry, maybe one you didn't know about!
As I said earlier, my nephews partner knows full well her father Ivan Davis's real forename is Ivanushka, and her grandfather's surname was Dombrowsky - but still believes she's Welsh!!

Yes, I have it. I was diagnosed in early 1993.

As far as I'm aware, I'm the only one in my family who has it. Although several of my ancestors passed away (in Victorian times) of a similar condition that I'll bet was actually Crohns.

Hi, My brotherin law had it from the age of 15 and his daughter was diagnosed with it about 4 years ago. However, brother in law had an op 5 years ago he is 69 and since the op ( not colostomy) he has been fine and can eat anything and has been able to travel abroad. He had the op at The Hallamshire Sheffield. I hope that his daughter will be able to have the same op with the same results, it is a terrible disease. Elaine.

One of my daughters has just been diagnosed with it a week ago although she has had some symptoms for years and been treated as if it was all in her mind! Fortunately she eventually found a consultant who has done more tests and finally found the proof.
