Date of birth on public sites

I don't like giving my date of birth on sites where you are trying to join. I don't see what my dob has anything to do with anybody else and I try and avoid joining up to sites where they ask for it.
My friend has asked me to join up to You Tube to see a video she has downloaded just for her friends. I see that when I try to open a You Tube account that it is asking me for my dob

Do others feel the same as me, or am I being too cautious?

I don't like adding my dob to public sites it's not safe. We are always being told to protect our id and not give our dob. I have watched you tube and not had to put my dob anywhere

Hi McB and Carole,
Yes it does smack of Big brother wanting all your personal details.
Carole, I too have watched video clips on You Tube without having to open an account. Not sure why I have to open an account to view my friend's video, but its not letting me watch it till I open one. What difference does it make to You Tube knowing my dob? Why do they want it - thats what I want to know.

I am coming up to 20 according to my dob on this site..... I am only fibbing the teensiest weensiest bit, lolol

I agree with you... so I fib on them all!! A girl has to do what a girl has to do ;¬))

You don't have to giv eyour exact date of birth - you could just mangle it up a bit. I expect all they're interested in really is an idea of the age range of the users of the site.

Thanks everyone for your input - I decided to do what McB, Daff and Jill suggested - putting any old date in, and I finally joined up.
After all that, I can't access my friend's video!

McB - got a laugh at you saying put yes down for sex LOL
Wouldnt let me though - it was a drop down menu, either male or female!
