OH has just set the garden on fire!

WE have been sat here for an hour and I said some b*gger has lit a bl**dy fire outside. OH gets up and shuts the front lounge window.

I am merrily typing away answering threads and am not happy. So gets up goes to loo sniffs the air, not the loo air, lol no smell of smoke here. Goes into lounge again, still a smell of smoke, enters kitchen, yep can smell it there too, we have a vent in kitchen window which lets in smells from outside sometimes, so opened back door to see if I could see smoke. What confronted me was the bl**dy shrub by the back door alight stupid bu**er threw his cigarettes end, like he normally does over the garden (disgusting habit), Shut the door and its been smouldering and eventually caught light!

Damn good job I looked out, imagine the embarrassment of havnig the fire brigade knocking on your door.

Oh darn, I could have had some hunky firemen in the bloomin garden - what a twit! lol Anyway its all out now three bowls of water and one saucepan full was enough. Good job it was not the last cigarette of the night! The whole garden would have gone up and the car - as its very close to all the shrubs! Holy Moses it does not bear thinking about.

Phew! I need a drink lol!

OMgoodness.... no firemen? How could you put out the flames yourself! *sigh*

Must have been scary, though, and like you said, good thing it wasn't the last ciggie of the night!!

Could havve been nasty Tina, One of our neighbours had his Leylandi hedge set on fire 2 years ago, it really caught and went up, had the fire brigade out to put it out as it was threatening the house. Glad you saw it.

Thats what was so frightening, because next to this shrub is a leylandi type shrub, a low growing one - my apologies for not knowing what we have in our garden, lol and next to this shrub the car is parked.

Thank goodness I did see it Ann and Daff. I will be peeping out the window all night now wondering if its started up.

Just goes to show how these few days of hot sunshine we have had can dry out shrubs and what cigarette ends can do.

Well fancy that ! Living with a pyromaniac I think you should invest in a fire exstinguisher !

Tina! Well what can you do with these old bu*gers that smoke eh! My hubby stands outside and flicks his fag over into the woods next to us...it will be like a bush fire there one day!

Oh no Tina, I've got that Billy Joel song in my head now..."We didn't start the fire"!

Lindsey, think a bucket of water permanently outside the backdoor would be a good idea!

Pam, oh my goodness, you had better tell him to flick it somewhere else. LOL

I have told OH to get the old ashtrays out and start stubbing them out properly.

Actually one of those buckets with sand in it may be worth thinking about...not very pretty but hey, if it saves a fire starting it's a good idea. I may sort one out for my hubby...or get him to do it.

Good idea Pam. Its something I have never thought of to be honest. Think OH has got a bag of sand somehere in the garden and a spare bucket, I can always put something on top of it and then a plant pot to disguise it.

Hi Tina
My Daughter's neighbour did same thing last summer,he threw his cig. end into a bush.
My Sil jumped over their fence and put out the fire, which had started to burn the back door. He had to call the fire brigade as the neighbours had gone out. They were soo lucky it was spotted and a warning to be careful, they now keep a sand tub by the door.

I had visions of you phoning the fire brigade

" help my bush is on fire "

They should have warnings on fag packets, Smoking can seriously damage your bush.!
