How do I pack a mobility walker/shopper please?

I want to send a walker/shopper to my aunt (from Norfolk to Somerset). The walker was my mils but she died very shortly after we bought it and its been in our garage ever since. Auntie has now had several ops and could do with it to get out to the local village shop.

Easy, I thought :) Ive bubbled wrapped it so its quite fat and then OH opened up an old cardboard box and sort of put that round and then taped it a million times BUT now when I try to get a quote to send it, instead of it being £7 or £8 for the 8.5 kg weight, they want hundreds of pounds to send it as its cubic dimensions come to 10.6 or something :(

Its really light, I can pick it up with one hand so I guess the bulky packaging is the problem.

Can anyone suggest how to pack it? I mean the places who sell them must be doing it somehow without it getting damaged.

Thanks guys.

Have you tried taking it to the post office and getting a quote from them?

I was going to suggest finding somebody who want to earn a few pounds and arranging it privately.

Have you tried parcel2go,
I use them for large items and are very cheap.

Hi heather, hubby has suggested you use any of the over night couriers, we use parcel force or city link, you may have to take it to one of there depots to make it a bit cheaper, but what ever we send it usually is no more than £6-7

The other thing is that when you have parcels measured they measure corner to corner diagnally, so that makes the parcel a bigger measurement, just pack it into a cardboard box with a small amount of bubble wrap, it will be safe.

Good Luck :o)

Many thanks guys - cant make it out at all. I just tried another big carrier and its over £200!

The cardboard "box" we have made up round it is about 39 inches x 26 inches and about 15" deep - its only 8.5 kg so I cant follow why this is all going pear shaped. I guess I shall have to remove a lot of the packing but I cant see how I can send the thing safely.

We dont have anywhere round here where I can get a box to fit this.

Sorted, thank gawd. Took the box off, left it in a sort of thick nylon weave sack with some bubble wrap. Took it into little local post office expecting them to say couldnt send it like that. They weighed it and charged £12.99 for 48 hour delivery - phew!
