Depends on what age:

Junior School - it was home on with 'play clothes' and outside in the summer, colouring or lego if it was raining before fish n' Chip tea

Senior School - Youth club

Royal Navy - if not at sea or on weekend leave hitting the night clubs of Pompey (Joanna's aka Royal Navy School of Dancing) or Union Street in Guzz

And now 20 odd years on..... TV, a glass of wine, a nice meal and bed to recover from the working week

Mary l used to go to the Mecca in Arundel street in Portsmouth, did you ever go there?

Deborah

Deborah Report 24 Apr 2009 23:15

Wow, this has stirred memories. Friday nights were usually straight to the pub from the office, try to remember to eat something at a reasonable time then onto a night club. None of that going home to change in between times. No time for that.

Saturdays were more sophisticated and we would all dress up that night and dance our stilettos off until our feet burned.

We had a "no dancing on Sundays" law here so that night (if we still had the energy) we would go to a club and listen to music, or sing along if the mood took us. Sometimes we would go to a pool club and have a few games. It was all very firendly and sociable, no competitiveness as there seems to be these days. We used to drink, but there was never any trouble.

Am I recalling my youth through rose tinted spectacles, I wonder. Lovely happy memories though.

Mummo, I was still single way back then and had a great time clubbing the nights away LOL

I remember at the Mecca most women did dress up in long evening gowns up til about the mid 70's. I bet you looked real glam in yours too :-))
