As you have probably read my mum has broken her Femur bone, can anyone tell me what will happen or how long she might be in hospital, have you broken yours or know anyone that has, l would be so grateful for any imformation.

It depends on the type and area of fracture, the hospital should be able to tell you more. With good wishes for a speedy recovery,

hi mummo my husband broke all bones in his leg one was the femur it depends how they have fixed it and how well your mum heals hun but its usually about 8months for healing but she should be out in a couple of days hope this has helped kerry xxxx

Sorry to hear this .Your poor mum.How old is she,is she generally mobile ,healthy?? A lot of things will be taken into consideration.Your best bet is to ask the hospital.Is it pinned or plastered?

this is what mil broke ..its broke in three places .it will depend on how severe your moms is ..

edit .. mil has been plated in three places has she has brittle bones ..

Thanks all for your replies , just phoned brother again and he will up date me as soon as possible, its such a worry, helen mum is 84 and is quite fit for her age but last couple of weeks she's been having trouble with her stomach and had the runs (sorry) for a fortnight but only weighs 6 stone so not much of her. Once again thanks everyone, must go shopping now.

Oh Mummo,

Your poor mum, bless her.

One of my aunties broke her leg, was in plaster for months, she's fine now yet I know how we all felt at the time. xxx

Sorry to hear about your Mum and I wish her a quick recovery.

As others have said a lot depends on the type of break .

I broke my Femur and had a steel pin / rod fitted in it with various pins. I had that lot in my leg for 18 months but it probably could have been removed after 12 months.
