I really have not got many photos about 4 when I was a young girl only 1 photo of my father who died when I was 6 one of my mother when she was a little girl a lot of her when she was older lots and lots of my grandmother I think she liked having her photo taken one of my greatgrandmother one of my gg/grandparents and of my mothers great anunts and uncles but I am afraid none at all from my fathers side.
My OH only has the one he found of his mother in the loft some of his parents when they were a lot older 1 of his self when he was a young boy and some taken when he was in the navy.

I love all the old things and so glad that other people do as well I could not throw much away am a bit of a hoarder.

Best wishes Margaret x

My dad was always taking photos, just dont know what happened to them. About 12 years ago my mums brother died, one of mums nieces gave mum a family photo of her mother and some members of the family that my uncle had hanging on his wall. Mum did'nt want it and gave it to me I've got it hanging on my wall, my Irish gran died when I was 12. I only saw her about three times.

I'm lucky. Family on both sides were avid photographers and we have loads of photos. Just recently found photos of a distant relative who was the navigator of the E11 submarine which was so successful in Turkey during WW1.

My OH has no baby photos and only a couple from his childhood, one of which was a school photo we were given by an old school friend of his. I doubt if his parents even owned a camera. Likewise the obnly photos we have of his parents are the ones I took when I met them in my teens as i have had a camera since I was 11. I on the other hand have loads of photos of my parents from young teens up and a few from childhood. And hundreds of me!!

I love it when I read about finds like Margaret´s. Such precious items. My partner has absolutely no photos of his childhood or anything. His mum was here yesterday and I asked her outright if she had ANY photos at all and she said none. It felt too intrusive to say "Why not" I´m helping her with her tree and she´s given me loads of info but it´s a shame my partner doesn´t even have a baby or childhood photo.

I like it too on the Antique Roadshow or on Flog it when someone says Oh I just found it in the attic (or better again a skip) and it turns out to be a Lalique bowl worth £28,000 pounds!

Hi Margaret,

I found many treasures in my parents loft, it was the home of my Grandparents as well so it had been in the family for 70 years.

Papers of the sale of my Grandad's farm stock in Saskatoon Canada in 1936, a bible given to my Grandad when he left Hollywood in Birmingham and went there to find his father abt 1910.

All so priceless to me as I know very little about my Grandad's childhood after his mother died in 1897.

Kind regards

How envious I am Margaret and of anybody who has a loft full of "things". I live in what was my grandparents house, and they had years before emptied and "burned" all the rubbish :((

Joy, I so remember when we all got together to get you to open up some of the letters, that was a really wonderful time on GR and we were so glad you done it to find so many wonderful things in the "big box". lol

You are so lucky, my mum does not believe in keeping photos, We had none of us when we were children, shes not even got her wedding photos, I know that they had some cos I've seen them.

I met up with a old school friend 2 years ago that I had not seen for about 30 years and she had a load of photos of me that she emailed to me, and one of me and brother and sister together she was kind enough to give me that one. First time my SIL had seen my brother has a little boy. so sad.

I have found one of my dads cousins though and she had given me photos of my grandparents.

What a wonderful find Margaret, well done:))

It is disgraceful that then, as now, men and women return after fighting for their country and don't get the help or respect they deserve:(

We cleared out our loft over the weekend and my OH found a document of his fathers dated the 13th May 1919 it was to say that his job had come to an end he had been there since he was a boy it was at the Woolwich Arsenal, that was the end of the war and I suppose the jobs were not so important then.
He also found a photo of his mother when she was a about 6-7 she was born in 1897 his father was 2 years younger he did not know he had this photo it was very nice. It shows you what you can find if you have not looked at things for a long time.
